Night shift & weight loss

Nurses Stress 101

Published

Hello!

ive been a nurse for a year now and I've noticed I've gained about 35lbs. The only thing that's changed in my life is starting to work night shift. I live in a very rural area where jobs are scarce so unfortunately the new grads are on the night shift until you move up the ladder. Can anyone give me advice on how I can lose the weight?? Any help is appreciated I can't even look at the mirror and could really use some tips. I have an incredibly hard time losing weight in general, it's not my thyroid, it's not fast food and soda, unfortunately it's biology as my family is all heavy set. Thank you

I lost 52 pounds (went from 180 to 128 pounds) while working 12-hour night shifts by adopting a reduced carbohydrate diet and exercising in the morning once my shifts would end.

I think going low carb like The Communicator recommended is a good way to go. However, I would recommend walking when you get up since activity will raise your body temperature and make it more difficult for you to get to sleep which is crucial for weight loss.

You did not mention your age? How old are you?

This can be a complex topic but for starters I would drop sodas, bread and candy. In your meals add some liquid coconut oil to up the fat content which will make you feel full. Feeling full is the key to weight loss and "good" fat is how you make that happen.

This is just a few suggestions, there are many other things you can do to lose weight.

Weight loss is pretty much 85% diet and 15% exercise so invest your time and energy where you will get the greatest return for your efforts.

Hope this helps!

I had the same problem. Cut my self down to 20 - 30 grams of total Carbs a day, only eating veggies, lean meats, nuts and berries. I do 45 minutes of cardio 4 times a week. Lost 20 lbs in 6 months. Watch your sugar intake! You can do it! Drink plenty of water also!!!
