Yes, it was a great weekend. I went out to eat at a nice restaurant with friends and ate some decadent food like steak, mac and cheese, and gelato (sp?) ice cream. All to die for (literally I could feel my arteries clog....LOL).

Back on track with healthy eating though. Self-indulgence with good friends is good for the soul. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Well, today you can do something fun and active on your day off, Tweety! No time like the present. I'm going on a walk this morning then I'll be doing yarkwork all day.

I weighed myself yesterday and I have lost 7 lbs since Feburary! I'm feeling leaner and fitter! My goal is to lose 10 more pounds in the next year.

Way to go :D. That's quite an accomplishment.

Hey thanks! I think giving up beer and wine made a big difference.

I've read getting enough sleep also helps with weight loss. I read that sleep deprivation is associated with poor eating habits and weight gain.

Me, too. I find that my most out of control eating is when I'm tired. I've been working nocs, so that is most of the time. I don't realize what I'm putting into my mouth, I think on some level I'm trying to pump enough sugar into me to stay awake.

I think hormones (cortison, insulin, etc.) also get really messed up at night.

I've been shopping for an elliptical type exercise machine but don't want to spend a huge amt of money, any suggestions?

A motorized treadmill would be too noisy for the people beneath me, trust me you can hear everything thru those floors!!

I was skinnier when I worked nights. Go figure. I think I've read that stress messes with the hormones that can help with weight gain.

I've been to the gym twice this week so far and eating relatively good. I'm having brown rice and beans with veggies for supper tonight.

Zoe, I've looked at elliptical machines, too--at least on-line. It looks like it's hard to find a cheap one that's good. Not impossible, probably. How much are you looking at spending? I want to get one for our basement, but they are running more than I'd like to spend. I could bite the bullet and work an extra each week for the summer, I guess...But then I'd be too tired to exercise .

Tweety, are you a night owl? I gain on nights, but I know I eat more junk than I do during day shifts. I'm definitely a lark (that sounds pleasant, yes ;)?) and my body wasn't designed to eat at night. Unfortunately, on the noc shift, I do :(.

Brown rice and beans sound good. My kids much prefer the brown to white rice. They won't even eat the white kind--although they have nothing against white sugar...sigh.

Buying one is cheaper than a gym membership, I keep telling myself. I guess if I want to get a decent one I have to spend about $300. used but I dunno. I HAVE the $ thanks to my taxes coming back! But I also need new glasses and want to pay for a class at the Univ., and wanted to put some aside since my car is getting OLDT!! Poor thing...

Bottom line is I'm afraid to spend $ on something that could potentially become a clothes rack... :*( (that asterisk is a teardrop)

Doesn't everything just fall apart at once? Do you like using the elliptical at the gym? I can understand your worry about it becoming a clothes rack--maybe it feels like it has the potential to be another sign of failure. I'm sooooo not saying you're failing in any areas, that's just how I feel--for me, personally.

Here's how I approach my gym membership. I take the cost of a year's membership, then each time I go I subtract the cost of a day's entrance fee (fortunately the fee to work out for a day is fairly high, while the cost of a year is fairly low) and try to see how fast I can come out ahead. That takes the focus off of exercising and turns it into a "Ha, I'm kind of stiffing the gym" thing. Very mature, I know . But, maybe something like that would work for you?

Yes, that's exactly it = I get more and more reluctant to "start over" because I am sick and tired of failing and gettig fatter every time...

You made me chuckle out loud about stiffing the gym, hee hee... :lol2:
