I think we complicate it SO MUCH Jess! I am finding out that the more I am taking care of myself in ALL areas, especially boundaries with others, and having boundaries WITHIN MYSELF -- ie I will not extend kindness to others at the expense of my sanity, and before I can extend GENUINE kindness to others, not resentful or obligatory - have to extend that kindness and mercy to myself! TRUE kindness - which also means not putting bullcrap in my mind, my spirit, and my body. - to put it plainly I am being very selfish right now since I am still hypomanic - better every day but ... it is VERY STRENUOUS WORK!

Sometimes being selfish is a good thing

We I managed a gym workout with 40 minutes of aerobics, along with yoga class later in the day. Not eating right, but that's comes on Monday.

What do you guys use for salad dressing? My diet calls for a lot of salads, but they ask you eat fat free or keep the fat to 3 gr per serving. I hate fat-free so much I'd rather eat it plain. As anyone tried the "Light Done Right" dressings?

The Light Done Right dressings ARE very good to me.

Oh, I do understand the concern that one piece will turn into the whole bag. But you should probably focus on the fact that you DID, in fact, only eat one. And that is GREAT! So give yourself a big pat on the back.

Is there are a friend in the area that you could start a walking program with or something? Just thinking about the "appointment" idea. Maybe, since you don't have anything close to you that you could attend you could find someone with a similar goal and set time to go walking or work out together or whatever. I've heard that sometimes it's easier to stick to things if you know that someone else is counting on you to be there.
Thanks so much - you sure are good for my self-esteem!

No, unfortunately there is nobody in my town that's interested - there are only 60-some people in my town, most of which are retired, and nobody wanting to commit to anything like that. It's ok though, my son is getting to a good, active age and I think that, by summer, my daughter will be old enough to enjoy the outdoors more (she is only 8 mos. now). I can use them as motivation to "get out and play" because I certainly don't want them picking up my couch-potato habits! That is something I know I will make myself do because I want to be a good influence on my kids - so yeay!!!

How is everybody's healthful season coming along? Our office Christmas party is today - but it looks like mostly decent food, so that is good. There are smothered burritos, a mexican casserole, I made guacamole and fresh salsa, and a huge salad is coming. There is a cake too, but it's not my favorite, so I think I can avoid that. My plan is to start out with a giant salad and then eat a little of the burrito and casserole (topped with a healthy dollop of guac and salsa, of course). I should be good and full that way and not be tempted by dessert . . . hopefully

Well, I do think that you are doing a great job and so often we get focused on everything we're doing wrong... it's important to acknowledge our successes, too! I knew you were in a small town, but I didn't realize exactly how small it is. That is tough. But the kids serve as great motivation, I'm sure.

Can't say much on the healthy living today as I just came from a department Christmas lunch. But my classes are done, so now I can put focus on other things, especially once Christmas prep winds up. Wonder how many calories wrapping presents burns :chuckle

Thanks again. Yes - when I say small, I am not kidding - that is why I can get away with being the Mayor - in no other town could I ever run and actually get elected - hahaha. Thank goodness my term is almost up though - talk about stress - aaaaaaah!!!

Well, I did break down and have a piece of cake at the party today, but oh well . . . it was really good and I don't plan on doing any more of that, so actually the guilt is not eating me today - interesting.

Sarah, not many of us are having a healthful season. I'm glad you're not feeling bad about the cake. When I start my diet I'm going to have to remember, it's not the cakes, it's the response to eating the cake. Sounds like you're doing good with that.

Thanks for the input on the dressings guys. I might give them a try.
