I saw this article, and over the years have heard of several families who have a child like this.

It's utterly heartbreaking.

Autism was once referred to as, among other things, childhood schizophrenia but it's not the same thing.

That is likely the saddest thing I've ever read. That poor child, as well as her family, have virtually no chance at a "normal" life. It's also sad that there are no solid resources available to them. I can't imagine how alone they must feel! I think I'll go hug my kids now.

This is just so incredibly sad for everyone involved. Unfortunately the situation will become even more unmanageable as Jani grows up and becomes taller and physically stronger.
My heart goes out to this family.

I was going to say, my daughter's neighbor has a child with all these symptoms and they call him a sever autistic. How in the world do they tell the two different diseases apart? One good thing, if it is actually schizophrenia there is always a chance of new treatments.

It's totally different than Autism. AUtistic children cannot have a real conversation with you. They parrot you, mimicking whatever you say. They talk
to themselves often, but maybe repeatin scenarios, or counting objects, reciting
an entire movie. Ect. My brother is 20, severely autistic and he can now have a
half way conversation, but it's very limited. "Would you please do the dishes" his
answer " Would you please do the dishes david, yes I will do the dishes". On
the surface it would seem this person has a one track mind, but I think it's the
opposite, I just can't understand it at all.

A former co-worker of mine had twin girls and one of them was diagnosed with Schizophrenia at age three. She's in her 30s now and still lives at home and is dependent on her family.

Man, that is really sad. I was actually thinking that as she gets older things might get better for them. Not only will there be more resources for Jani and her family, but she will have a better understanding of her disease which may curve the tantrums. She may be ultra smart, but as we get older we mature and have a better understanding of our emotions and are not controlled by them like when we're children. Hopefully that will be the case to some extent with Jani!

As a parent, I cannot imagine the horrific suffering this family is going through. Hopefully the parents will not be torn apart by what their little girl is going through; Lord knows that even raising "normal" kids can be incredibly hard on relationships sometimes. It helps to put my own problems with my kids in a different perspective. Thanks for sharing.
