KCC ADN FALL 2011

U.S.A. Hawaii

Published

Hi guys!

Anyone here applied to the KCC nursing program for Fall 2011??

I have been checking the mail religiously... sometimes twice a day (loser!)

The FAQ section of their website said that we will know if we got accepted for fall by mid April... but you never know...

Just wanted to see if there were any others stalking the mailman like I am :coollook:

Waiting is definitely not my favorite!!

Thanks!

So what did you guys think of the orientation? That room was freezing cold. I got kind of excited and went ahead and ordered supplies online. Going to start tracking books down to see if I can save some money!

www.scrub-source.com has cheap shipping to hawaii and way lower scrub prices dickies/landau/etc than uniforms hawaii or other local vendors

www.medisave.net has good prices on steths, cheap shipping, and free laser engraving

most textbooks can be found on amazon with cheap or free shipping.

Do you guys think this blue is the same as our uniform pants?

I've heard good things about Littmann Stethoscopes... but do you recommend any particular type of steth for nursing students??

there are so many different types... I'm kind of lost on which one to get...

also... should I purchase the optional fanny pack?? sounds like it would come in handy...

any recommendations on the scissors... and any other supplies we should get??

Thank you!!! :) :) :)

at UHM we're required to get the littman cardio III. it's a pretty awesome steth. it'll last you from nursing school all the way into your nursing practice. it's worth investing in a quality steth from the start. it just makes assessments wayyy eaiser.

I ended up getting a Littman Classic II S.E, but after your post I kinda wished I splurged and got the littman cardio.

Anyone manage to get a copy of the KCC skills and standards package? I went to LCC yesterday but they were out or it didn't come in.

On another note, I just got my clinical assignments today and I was assigned to Straub hospital :)

I got the skills and standards package from KCC book store a while back...

It's also on laulima if you want to print it up at home...

just wondering... how did you get assigned a clinical location already??

I looked on laulima but didn't see anything... I didn't get an email either...

I'm at KCC... maybe we have different teachers?? are you at LCC??

that's gonna be hard trying to get to straub at 6:30 in the morning if you live on that side...

I'm not sure why they open up LCC cohort if they're gonna make everyone drive out to town for the lectures and clinicals lol

good luck to you! hope the commute is not too much of a pain in the behind for you!!

I'm at the LCC cohort. Got an email yesterday stating my clinical assignment. As for distance..it's far, but it doesn't bother me too much. I live pretty far from everything anyways...so I'm used to it. I just need my vanilla mac coffee from 7-11 and I'm ready to go, no matter what time it is

Good luck at KCC! I graduated from there :). It's one of the toughest programs out there- they will BREAK you at some point- but get back up again!!! LOL!!! Seriously, they have no problem weeding out the weak, the faint of heart, the lazy, the attitude-problems, but boy it was worth it. Passed the NCLEX no problem, got a job right away. KCC only takes the cream of the crop!! But their clinical instructors (not all) are fierce!!!!

I guess we all got in..I heard they ran out of alternates or something, thats why our class only has 37.

Received a packet on April 1, 2011. I am on the waiting list. Currently taking ZOOL 142 + L & PHRM 203 (last of my co-reqs).

Pre/Co-req GPA: 3.8

Cum GPA: 3.3

NLN: 154

Congrats nurse_oneday and to all those accepted!

Your NLN composite is really good!!! How did you study for the science portion? I am having a hard time with that part. I've taken the NLN twice and received 60%s!!
