NO way!! Are you serious. That is so strange. Guess it's Hawaii!?! Everyone that I knew on the mainland that had a job as a volunteer or CNA got first picks and offers as a LVN or RN when they graduated..even without having their license yet. Networking on this site, FB, LinkedIn, Twitter has helped some people that I know connect with others who have helped them out. Personally...no luck yet, but Im trying. Yesterday we took our child to Urgent Care at Kaiser and I even asked some of the nurses if they were hiring..someone asked for my number, but who knows how far that will go...worth a shot thought right. It's just that I know that as soon as job openings are available, employees run and tell their family and friends and give them recommendations..so they already get the upper hand. I try to make small talk with everyone around here just hoping to find someone that might have some connections. I'd PM you if I could, but Im unable to becuase Im just on the free trial right now. Have you tried the nursing recruiters?? Just wondering..I haven't tried em yet..still holding out. A friend of mine told me that they can send you out to Oahu..tickets paid of course..for the weekend or whatever your schedule is like...wondering if it's worth the trouble.. So will they actually let you get a job under your scope of practice?? I don't see why not so long as you stick with your job profile and don't overstep. They're all Union here so I don't know the rules??

MommyT:
That Craigslist ad is for Hale Makua, a LTC facility, 2 miles away from where we live. I talked to them months ago. Very polite, very respectful, very considerate HR lady. She said:
1. We can't hire you as an LPN because it costs too much $$ to train you.
2. We can't hire you as a CNA because you have an LPN license, and we would have problems with the nursing unions if we hired you as a CNA.
*smiling* On my right, I see a rock. On my left, I see a hard place. Next? -- Lisa ;-)

P.S. What is FB?

SORRY..that's crap!! I'm over here also looking at LVN and CNA jobs...looks like we're in the same boat. I figured that place wouldn't hire me bcz they wouldn't want to pay an RN, but even if I was willing to work as a VN they'd have some kind of issue with it too..

FB=Facebook..social networking site. I've been looking for a Maui Nurses forum but haven't found one yet. You might bump into people or groups that might get you to the right places.

Yep, that's true for Ohio too. I have to wait two years til I can start my RN clinicals and I have one more pre-rec. to finish in the spring.
