Milk is NOT $5.00 per gallon in Hawai'i. Go to COSTCO! I find the food prices at costco are about the same as costco in California. Also, the gas has often been cheaper at Costco Honolulu than Costco California. If you are coming to Hawai'i from CA you will see little difference in prices on anything. I have yet to see a huge difference on anything as long as I shop at Costco.

Milk is not native to Hawaii... =)

The last two times I bought Milk from Costco... spoiled within a day of opening.

I have to sift through the milk at Costco. They stick the old ones in the front. I even climb into the fridge sometimes to get the fresh ones in the back. They last a long time. =)

Blue H2O: Question for you... why do you buy milk at Costco? Why don't you buy milk at Safeway, Foodland, Starmarkets or Wal-mart?

Love Re: Jobs in Hawaii
I buy milk and most other grocery items at Costco to save money. Milk costs much more at Foodland...even with a Maika'i card. I also really appreciate the quality of Costco items. I can always count on everything being top quality. The meat and produce especially....oh and the frozen items, breads, etc... The rotisserie chicken...ok...I'm getting hungry. Many items come from Hawai'i too. I noticed, in visiting other costco's in different states, that they carry local products which is good for local businesses. Costco Maui and Honolulu are really good about that. You can find lots of products made in Hawai'i. The prices have started to go up a bit...but they are still less than foodland, star, safeway, etc.

how about applying to registries in Hawaii and trying out a short term assignment before committing to moving here? The difference between a vacation in Hawaii and living / working here full time CAN be a shock. Not meant to discourage you..I used to live in Arizona too and moved around a bit before coming to Hawaii. Absolutely love it but it's definitely not the same as mainland life. Unless you are single and don't have a lot of items to move over, you might want to try a short term assignment. Once the honeymoon phase of living on the island wears off you can better decide if it's a place you want to live long term.

I talk with a lot of the Nurse Registries in Hawaii, ie: Altres, NurseFinders, CareResource, Kulana Malama, and some home care service. They would prefer at least 6 months to 1 year experience.

Heads up guys: Tripler has new-grad. Check out USAjobs.gov. Also Kaiser will be hiring more since they have the new wing. All positions are call-in for now. Part-time and Full-time are only for current employee. Queen's will have a new grad in the summer. Check out their website. Hawaii Pacific Health will not be hiring any time soon. You must be a current employee to get a new-grad. Plus Straub is renovating 6th floor so experienced nurses are floating on the med-surg units for a year!
