Hi lweatherby, thanks for the info. Did you travel all the way to Dallas to have an interview? And do they offer relocation assistance? Thanks in advance!

I did travel to Dallas, but I only live about 2.5 hours east of dallas. Relocation assistance was never discussed.... so not sure if they provide or not.

Thanks for the info. I don't live in Texas so I was curious. But I have a feeling that they'll prefer ppl who live in Texas before they look at out of state candidates.

I understand how you feel. I joined this site so that I could vent. They say they need nurses, the jobs are listed, I apply (long applications) and I wait. NO RESPONSE!!! I'm an 18 year veteran, (50 years old) and I quit my job with the state because I was being sit up by management for failure. (I'm not quite ready for retirement.) She would tell me to do something, I would tell her that it was wrong according to rules and regulations. She would tell me to do it her way. I did, and then she would tell me it was wrong, write me up, and call me in the office with the Director! Frustrating and confusing. I didn't want to lose my license after so many years so I quit! I thought that I would be able to walk out of one job and into another. After six weeks of unemployment, I've submitted 6 applications, a dozen or more resumes, been on three interviews (one lasted 2 1/2 hrs.) and I'm still unemployed! Wonderwoman, I'm going to Walmart to work, if they will have me. At least I will be able to make my car payment with that money!

We made it through nursing school and we will make it through this. HANG IN THERE......

Allow me to join in this interesting, depressing yet hopeful discussion...

I am quite shocked to read all this. I am Canadian (live in Vancouver) and I graduate with my BSN in May 2010 (one semester left). Even though it is 6 months ahead I have already been hired in the exact area I want, in the hospital I want (Emergency at a level 1 trauma hospital here). Out of approximately 50 people that will be graduating with me next spring, I know of ONE who didn't get in where she wanted to (but found a position elsewhere). Yes- 99% of us already have jobs lined up for the taking, and this is months away. I'm not meaning to be snyde, I'm just really surprised how different things are so closeby.

Perhaps come on up to Canada, we're friendly up here and the dollar is pretty much on par (new grads start around 30$/hr + benefits). If you go to rural places, you can make a killing. Hello Mr. Polar Bear.

So I suppose my question would be twofold: I have read some people who have a lot of experience/BSNs getting rejected, but is this the case for everyone posting on this board? Does everyone here have a BSN and still can't find employment? Or is it more difficult for the ADNs? Or does it even matter?

And two, is this largely geographic I take? Does anyone know how the situation is around the Seattle area?

It is really hard to get jobs and I have a BSN. Most of my fellow classmates still don't have jobs and have been searching for 6 months already. However, in my area they do have posting for nurses with experience so i guess it's just harder for new grads here in ny.

Which hospital in McAllen? Any advice on how to apply or who to speak with would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I live just a hop, skip, and a jump from McAllen and want to work in that area but not sure what hospital. I graduate from UT-B in May. At what hospital are you working? PM me and we can discuss the area, the cheap and AWESOME food, and the culture shock---I'm from Washington state!!
