That is a very good idea, I track my exercise on a website that tracks what you eat, how much you exercise and give you a lot of tips and videos, but I also love the sticker idea. How did you lose so much weight going from 180-130? that is amazing and I am very jealous...haha....please share with us...CONGRATS!!!!!.....I would love to be 130...but I know once I get there, if I get there, everything won't be perfect. But one can hope. Please share...

Well in 2001 we lost a loved one, and gained slowly after that. I weighed 132 at the time. My sister went to hell in a handbasket also. Previous to this happening, I never really struggled with my weight, and in fact, took a lot of flak from co-workers for eating healthy, and exercising. When I made a decision to stop the madness, I lost 25 lbs fairly quickly, but then played around with the rest of the weight for a few years, losing and gaining the same 5 lbs or so. Finally, I just thought it was stupid what I was doing, and decided to take off the rest, and did so by eating smarter, and exercising more. When I first gained all that weight, I also stopped exercising, and just ate any dumb thing I wanted. Well, that didn't work of course, and I just went up and up. Now, I am back in my size sixes, and all my "fat clothes" went to the Goodwill. So I don't think there's a whole lot to be done with the jiggles that I am left with, except camouflage! I sure wish I had never gained the weight, but I did, so I can't beat myself up about that. And even before I gained I never liked my body, ever! So now, I still don't like it, but I am proud to have taken it off, and plan to keep it off. There just is no other way except smarter eating and exercise. In my sister's case, she has done the yo-yo thing a lot, always picking a new reason (usually a vacation)to take it back off. She would always put it back on, and has worked sedentary jobs. So, I'm hoping what she's doing now will actually be a lifestyle change, and she can stick with it. She just sent me a bunch of new stickers too! I ran out of the smiley ones, and was using some lame ones I had around, just to save money. I have saved my calendars for years, so can look back and see how I've done by the stickers. Sometimes if I'm feeling like a real slug, I'll put the sticker on first, so than I have to do my 30 minutes! I'm on the honor system, even if I would just be lying to myself, I cant do it. If the sticker goes up, the exercise follows! My friend has an eliptical machine that I covet. I would really like to have one some day!

I really like the sticker idea. The Wii keeps you pretty honest...which is currently my exercise method of choice. I like the fact that it monitors what I do and how long I do it and then I can weight myself each day to see how I'm doing. It is disappointing to have it tell me, "that's overweight" every time I weigh in, but I just keep telling myself that at some point it will NOT say that!!

I can say that my weight gain story is not unlike blindsided. My father in law passed away in September of 2006, I had just started my prereqs and was stressed as it was, then in September of 2007 my father passed away (literally almost 1 year later to the day). Well, I started eating and went from about 135 to 185 in no time. I have RA, so I'd love to get my weight back down because my pain would decrease. The thing I like to do most is run and I can't run because my weight is too high right now and it will hurt horribly to put that pressure on my joints. So....off to the Wii I go!! I'm not eating poorly, just too much of everything. I've been cutting my portions in half and using spark people to track my food. I also have a treadmill and a weight set thingy (thingy is a technical term) in the basement, but I've been trying to use the Wii first to get myself back into the swing of exercising since the little "personality" of the Wii keeps me honest.

This is a great thread, becuase most nursing students I know and dealing with a weight issue because of school.

Congrats! 2 pounds is great! If you lost 10-20 in 1 week that would have been terrible plus most likely it would of just come right back! 2 pounds is a lot more likely to stay off!

I am starting the sticker thing...1 sticker equals 30 mins of workout! So far I have 1 sticker on my calender (hey I just started yesterday ha)

Hey, glad you guys like the sticker idea...I know, they're fun. Sounds like a lame thing, but they help to keep me motivated, and yes, I have one for today too! I do little free weights three times per week for my arms. I'm more pear shaped, but my sister is an apple. She got the good legs, but they say apple shape is more dangerous weight, around the major organs. We both have high cholesterol genetics. She's lost 10 lbs as of today, and is on a high-dose statin. so maybe she can reduce that eventually. I'm trying fish oil caps, so we'll see if it helps. I know my good cholesterol (HDL) is better than hers, so that offsets my LDL some. We also have various cancer, HTN, and heart disease in our genetics. Oh yeah, I forgot diabetes, so there's all those reasons to keep the weight off! Both my parents were heavy smokers for all my life and before. I have never smoked except 2 puffs outside the theater when I was eleven. I lost my lunch, and missed the movie, so no more smoking for me. Of course, we were breathing the second-hand smoke our whole young lives. Bummer, but can't change that.
