I am sure that you guys have thought about this idea at one point of another, but I am not sure if you really pursued it or had it go past an idea.
I like most of you have applied to 500+ jobs in probably 7 different states, and have had no luck of getting anything in a hospital or LTC facility at all!....So having always been friendly with my high school teachers and staff while in high school, I went back to volunteer with the field hockey team, okay sorry thats kind of off topic but its how I came to my current job, until something better comes along.
I am substituting as a nurse in my local school district. The same elementry schools I attended and the same high school I attended. The nurse and everyone there knows me so when I went to apply, they were so helpful. I thought at first you need to have your BSN, or take a special class to be certified as a school nurse, but this is not the case, at least here in NJ, I would check it out for yourself in your home state to be sure. I only had to fill out application, more paperwork, get the same fingerprints done again we got fot the NCLEX, and pay 125 $ for the school nurse certification. It isn't actually a class to get certified but more like just getting reciprocity in another states (they make you pay for everything), and you are Certified!!!!
I start Monday and train just 1 day at all 3 schools and then I will be set up to substitute at any of them when the nurse's need it. I also signed up to be a substitute teacher at all 3 school, because that would probably call me in for work more often, but at least I can say I have Pediatric Rn experience in some form.
SORRY THIS WAS SO LONG, AND PROBABLY NOT TOO KNEW OF INFORMATION....BUT CHECK IT OUT!!!!
GOODLUCK EVERYONE!....WE DEFINITELY NEED IT!
