Just an Idea for New Grads who can't find jobs.....

I am sure that you guys have thought about this idea at one point of another, but I am not sure if you really pursued it or had it go past an idea.

I like most of you have applied to 500+ jobs in probably 7 different states, and have had no luck of getting anything in a hospital or LTC facility at all!....So having always been friendly with my high school teachers and staff while in high school, I went back to volunteer with the field hockey team, okay sorry thats kind of off topic but its how I came to my current job, until something better comes along.

I am substituting as a nurse in my local school district. The same elementry schools I attended and the same high school I attended. The nurse and everyone there knows me so when I went to apply, they were so helpful. I thought at first you need to have your BSN, or take a special class to be certified as a school nurse, but this is not the case, at least here in NJ, I would check it out for yourself in your home state to be sure. I only had to fill out application, more paperwork, get the same fingerprints done again we got fot the NCLEX, and pay 125 $ for the school nurse certification. It isn't actually a class to get certified but more like just getting reciprocity in another states (they make you pay for everything), and you are Certified!!!!

I start Monday and train just 1 day at all 3 schools and then I will be set up to substitute at any of them when the nurse's need it. I also signed up to be a substitute teacher at all 3 school, because that would probably call me in for work more often, but at least I can say I have Pediatric Rn experience in some form.

SORRY THIS WAS SO LONG, AND PROBABLY NOT TOO KNEW OF INFORMATION....BUT CHECK IT OUT!!!!

GOODLUCK EVERYONE!....WE DEFINITELY NEED IT!

AWESOME IDEA!! I actually want to be a school nurse in the future but I figured I would need experience first, never thought to be a substitute. There are vacancies in my area right now that I'm gonna apply for. Wish me luck!

Yeah maybe, I am sorry that happened to you!!!....

Maybe it was just that one districts decision, my school district really needed one and because they knew me from going there, they set it up for me.

GOODLUCK!!!!!

So funny because you and I are doing the same thing. I have been a substitute nurse now for a little over a month. One of the nurses in my district is out on medical leave and I am filling in for her! It is definitely making the days go by easier and it has given me some hope. However, the urge and desire to work in a hospital and have a permanent position is so strong for me. I get so depressed thinking about the what if's. But I am so glad to hear that you have something!!! I hope everything continues to work out for you.
