Finally got official job offer

by L8RRN

After being told I had the job and lots of waiting (total time was about 2 1/2 months), I got "the call!" I start in a few weeks at a hospital close to home.
I just wanted to post because I am not a "pushy" person and HATED calling back time after time to "check the status of the position". I almost gave up so many times but my "pushy" friends told me not to let it go. Well, I called...and called again...and again (and so on). Didn't become a "pest" but kept my name in there and finally got the official call to start!!
Do NOT give up!! Apply even if it asks for experience. The job I got said one year experience preferred. They apparently use a blanket posting but it depends on if they are getting any experienced applicants or not...if not, they will train new grads.

Good luck to everyone!!!! I know how frustrating and upseting it is to wait for the phone to ring.

Congrats!

Thanks for reminding us about how difficult, yet important, it is to be assertive without being pushy and to hang in there with a positive outlook. I really appreciate reading a note from someone with a good experience. I would be very interested to hear how often you called to show your interest in the job.
I'm just about to begin my ASN preceptorship, so I have a few weeks before I can do the full-time job search, and I know that my area has lots of new grads all looking for the same jobs. Starting out with a pesssimistic outlook will only further reduce my chances of success, so thanks for the inspiration.

Good luck!

Yeah, thanks for the reminder...it has been tough and I've forgotten (albeit frustrated, pessimistic and yes...lazy) in doing call backs. Btw, congratulations!! It's nice to hear some good news. Tomorrow's another day, another chance...!
Wishing you the best of luck from one new grad to another

Thanks everyone!
The whole process took about 1 1/2 months for this department and I called about 5 times. Well, there were two emails in there also. I typed what I was going to say before I called in (esp if I needed to leave a message) to make sure it sounded OK. :-) I tried to just make the call about once a week until I knew there was a critical deadline like for the next orientation class to start.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE LOOKING!

The NM said she wanted to hire me but there was a delay with HR doing the "official" offer. UGH! :-) Took a good month of persistance to get the interview in the first place.

Congrats!! I am still hunting and interviewing. I had two interviews at the same ob-gyn office....one as the initial one, and the 2nd to shadow the MAs and the one RN to see how a usual day goes. I got a call again today to shadow the RN again, so I am waiting to see if I can schedule that sumtime next week on my days off from my retail job. I have an interview tomorrow at a children's hospital here in DC for the MedSurg unit, and then I am going to a rehab hospital up the street for their open house right after. I have a feeling I will get a job at the ob-gyn office. It was not in my plans to start off in a non-hospital setting, but I feel at home there, and I am so appreciative at how supportive the nurse manager is and she seems like she is very interested in me. It would be hard to move into a hospital position once I felt I was ready to leave, but hard does not mean impossible, so if offered this job, I will take it. I'm just scared if I get the job offer from them and one from a hospital, because the nurse manager at the ob-gyn office did ask me if I was considering going with another position beecause she didn't want to waste time on an applicant if they really didn't want to work there. At the time, I hadn't gotten the interview at the Children's hospital, so I told her no and that I was very interested. I'm sure God will place it in my heart to go wherevere He wants me to go, though!
