Visiting Ft. Sam on recruiting tour

Hello all, this is my first post to this site, but I have been reading threads for awhile. I am going into my junior year of nursing school and am seriously contemplating the ANC. I am prior service of 8 years. Anyways, to my question. I will be visiting Ft. Sam in about a month, and I am curious if any of you have gone on these tours and what they are all about? Do you get to speak with some of the nurses at the medical centers?

Thanks

Hi,

Heya, I'll be there in about a month too, (getting ready to report and then OBLC).

Would you mind sharing information about this tour? I'd kind of like to go on one too. :) I have a sponsor at BAMC, have limited contact with her right now since I am waiting for NCLEX in a couple weeks.

Since you are prior service 8 years!! (all active?) I think you will really like coming into the ANC. Wowsa, just check out the salary for prior enlisted who acess as an officer, that in itself is impressive. Good on you.

I am not sure how the army does it, but I will be going on a recruiting tour for the AF in a couple of weeks to Travis AFB. It is for two days. We get to have dinner with some of the medical staff, get to tour the base, and will have an opportunity to talk with the active duty nurses in the clinical area we are interested in. Everything is paid for, except they did tell us to bring $50.00 (which will be reimbursed at standard govt rates) for food and any souviners we wanted to buy. Sounds like a nice little get away to me!

Hi!! I'm a new member to allnurses, but I have been reading the threads for a long time. I bet I have read every thread that Gennaver has written. If anyone know if the ANC does a tour of FT Sam please post... This would be great. I have been thinking of joining for a long time. Good luck Gennaver on boards and @ OBLC. keep us posted!!!!!!

Hello Itshamrtym,

Thank you very much! Hopefully all my ponderings and processing out loud wasn't too much trouble! Gack, I know I listed many posts about this transition. :)

Less than a month now, wowsa!

Nice to read you.

Check with your local health care recruiter. That is how I am going on this tour next month

I'm flying out to Ft. Sam on Sunday for the recruiting tour. It sounds like it will be very interesting. We get to tour all of the medical areas, just not nursing. If there is anyone here that wants to to find out something specific while I am there, please let me know. I would be glad to ask. I'll fill you guys in when I return.

Have a Good tour!!! Can't wait to hear about your experience!!!
