I was just accepted into the VALOR program at the VA and I am going to be working in the ED. I'm very excited about it, but definitely nervous too. I've never had any clinical experience in the ED, so does anyone have any advice about that or just about the VALOR program in general? Thanks in advance :)

I have no idea what you can expect but I just want to say congrats! I heard this program is awesome and you will really be learning a lot of skills and get more practice beyond what nursing school can offer you.

Congratulations Vesta! I started at the VA as a VALOR and never left.

You have your foot in a fantastic door. This is a 10 week job interview. Keep that in mind :)

I have a VALOR interview tomorrow! Any tips on the interview process (i.e. any tough questions or mostly general like why did you chose nursing, that type of stuff?) Any advice would be great! :)

Congrats!!! I just got accepted as well in Puerto Rico's VA. They told me I will be working in CICU and I'm so excited to start!!! I've been told by many its the best experience you'll ever receive in nursing school. I did a clinical rotation in the ED of VA and believe me you'll learn a lot!!! I catheterized my first patient there lol. Good luck and congrats once again!

Well the director of the school has to recommend you and they have to write a letter of recommendation. You send in all the paper work required which is the directors letter, your transcrips and I forgot what else. But once you send it all in the director of the VALOR program calls you to set up a interview. You go in and answer some questions and she will ask you to go more into detail about the questions you answered. The interview was in spanish and they do perfer for their applicants to be fully bilingual since you have to document in english yet speak to the patients in spanish. I turned my stuff in March and got called in April that I got accepted. Worked the whole summer and they just called me to go work again Oct- May. What school do you attend?

Zesta,I was a VALOR in Seattle,Wa in one of the ICU's and it was the best experience to have bar none. It jump started my career as an ICU nurse just like it will do for you in the ER. Good lick to all those applying and just starting.

Hey MTBerRN

I also got accepted as a VALOR student this year for the VA Puget Sound. How were you able to get into ICU because I chose ICU as my first choice during my interview. Were you placed there or did you request to be placed there?
