Hello Allnurses, From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in... Read More

So I have been following this thread for a bit here. I applied to a VA RN position back in January, had a phone interview two-three weeks later and about three weeks after called the nurse recruiter assigned to the position who said I was selected but she was still finishing up paperwork. I have followed up every week since that time with this same individual. She is super helpful and friendly. She said that I had been selected and they were going to make a tentative offer, but that it wasn't her who was going to call me. She then kept me on the phone and asked me if I had a few things she needed like a copy of my BLS card and another OF306. She sent me an email with the OF306 (second time I filled it out) and I faxed both items to her yesterday. Still haven't been made an official tentative offer... All in all it has been about two months since I applied to the position. I expected it to take a long time, but feel confused about who to contact and about the offer. I'd like to get the ball rolling in any direction at this point as I have an interview at a separate hospital on Thursday, but would prefer the VA position. Just a little confused...Any advice from anyone would be helpful.

Also is VETPRO mandatory? It sounds confusing and no one has mentioned anything to me about it yet. Also I had letters of reference created from previous instructors (I'm a new grad) prior to graduation as well as a LOR from my commander at my military unit who is a nurse. Is this what they will be looking for with VETPRO or will someone have to write me a whole new letter and send it in?

    Thanks everyone!

Anyone apply for a non staff nurse position? I applied back on 2/12 for an Informatics position and am in limbo. It closed on the 20th, and now says complete (instead of pending HR speciailist). Wondering how different this hiring process might be than a floor nurse.

Well now my USA Jobs announcement info was updated to Selected. Still no phone call or email. What a strange process this has been. All in all since the time of my application it has taken two months. And the position is one they wanted filled quickly. Can anyone give me advice about VetPro, should I put my current employer in the system? They don't know I am seeking other employment and it could be disastrous if they found out from the VA and not from me. Any advice? Seems like this thread may have died a bit, but I will try this post and see if I can get any feedback.

    Thanks all!

Alot of the VetPro and EQuip process depends on how bad the need is and if you are going perm or contractor. There are a few locations that will actually expedite the process and can go from interview to start in to 2-4 weeks (which is lightening fast for the VA). One of my old travel companies is recruiting like crazy for the VA in Houston right now. I have been getting calls talking about 17 new openings and expedited credentials. I have previous experience at the Long Beach VA and that hiring process was a tough thing to go through. Wait until you think you are all done and they throw the TMS training (that takes 2 hours) at you!

Its been one week since the VA updated my USA Jobs account with selected. Still no call and no TO. I am beginning to become inpatient. I called and left a message last week on Thursday to no avail. I am going to do everything within my power not to call again. So as not to drive the people nuts. Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing? I just really want to get my life organized and this seems ridiculous. How long did it take others to recieve their TOs after being selected?

Still nothing. So tempted to call again. Doing everything within my power to be patient. I don't want to be annoying, but this is getting silly. If I was selected then, lets get on with it. I don't know what the hold up could be, but I'd really like to know. I will probably be weak and call again later today...Any words of advice?

Cita, tough situation you're in because I totally get where you are coming from on the whole annoying thing but sometimes you have no choice if you really want to pursue something. I will tell you that after my interview, they said they would notify after 2-3 weeks and after the second week I called and the Nurse recruiter told me they had already made selections and calls were already made. She said the reason they didn't call me to notify me that I had not gotten the job was because they make an alternate list so it wasn't completely over yet. Okay sounded fair and she said either way, I would be notified even if not selected. Okay well that never happened. I was not persistent because I was clearly not selected but you have been, so pursue it because its not going to be as important to anyone as it is going to be to you. Let us know, we always appreciate the experience of others. I'm sure you won't be the last and others will benefit from seeing how you went about it and the conclusion. Good luck to you!
