USAGPAN 2018

I noticed someone had started a thread to rally up nurses applying to the USAGPAN class starting this year so I thought I'd do the same for next year's class! I'll be speaking with a recruiter soon, but I hope to begin the application process very soon! I have about 2 years of critical care experience, just took my GRE and I'm scheduled to take my CCRN next month. I'll be doing that biochem class sometimes before June as well. Anyone else out there applying for next year's Army Nurse Anesthesia Program?

So happy that you made it!!!! See you soon!

Thanks!! Now the mad dash to make it there at the end of January begins!

I was notified today that I was pulled from the wait list! Best Christmas present ever! Can't wait to meet you guys next year!

That's awesome.Congrats!

For those wondering what may lie ahead at DCC course here's a link to a FB page for DCC at Fort Sill C Battery 2-6 ADA Direct Commission Course - Home | Facebook

Lots of photos to see ... it's intimidating and exciting at the same time :)

This probably would be a question for those who are in the program right now - I was wondering when exactly does the phase 1 end and phase 2 begin and is there are break between the two. Also, what are the location options for phase 3 (after graduation) and for how long would one stay at one site (after graduating) ?

Congratulations! I too was pulled from the waitlist earlier in the month. It is certainly the best way to way to end the year! See you soon.

Awesome news! I'm looking forward to meeting you!

There is a break between phase 1 and phase 2, but we aren't sure how long it is. Students from FY16 have said they were given 1 week of permissive TDY in June to go find housing and then they had a short break after phase 1 to move and get settled before reporting to the OR.

I've heard first duty stations are usually med centers where you'd have help/resources available, since you're on your own for the first time, but I don't think that's a guarantee. It all depends on the army's needs when it's time for you to PCS. You stay there for 3 years, as it's just a regular duty station assignment.

Thank you for all the valuable information. I have two questions. I am sure they have been asked already so I apologize in advance.

1. Applications for civilians are due in September. Should I submit a couple of months early?

2. When will I have to pass all the fitness requirements, sit-ups, push ups, and running?

I already have a Master's degree so I know I will go to BLOC. I am not sure if I need to meet all requirements for my physical (MEPs) or by BLOC if accepted. Thanks for the help!

Hi ProfNuse,

I am expecting to begin the FY18 cohort. I wish you the best!

1. My recommendation is that you start your application process now. If you have not yet contacted a health professions Army recruiter, then you should definitely find one soon. He/She will be your best resource and will assist in the process from start to end. My application process was about a year long to complete, I was serving in another branch and I had to be released prior to joining the Army so I had a few extra steps. Each application is different and the processing time is contingent on the individual. I hope this helps.

2. It is difficult for me to provide an accurate answer for this question because I was serving in a different branch and was able to provide my fitness scores. This will be an excellent question for your health professions recruiter!

TIPS: In looking for an Army health professions recruiter, I would recommend you ask if he/she has put someone thru this program. Also, once you have started the application process be sure to complete all the requirements (documents, appointments, etc) as soon as possible as sometimes any of those may be required to be accomplished more than once or may need extra supportive documentation (this is not uncommon). Keep copies of everything you can.

Best!

DGT.RN,

Thank you for this information. I have created my own check list & actually would be ready to submit my application and all documentation today if I could; however, I have to drop some pounds. This week I am going to schedule an appointment with my AMEDD recruiter this week and take in all of his/her suggestions.

Again, my main concern is meeting the weight requirement for the physical & then trying to find out when I need to meet requirements for APFT.

Warmest Regards,

ProfNuse

Hi! I have two questions. When you went to MEPS, did you have to meet the weight & BMI requirements at that time? When do you have to meet the requirements to pass the physical fitness portion? Push ups, sit ups, and 2 mile run?

Thank you for your assistance! :)
