Hello hello! I'm glad I found this board

My application was just sent in and I have my interview July 2nd!

A little about me since some of you shared:
    - Graduated Spring 2011, BSN
    - Have my RN
    - No paid work experience But I do have a TON of volunteer experience with the Red Cross (immunization clinics and a certified disaster nurse), medical staff at a kids diabetes camp, and an RN at a free clinic
    - 3.6 GPA overall
    - Did a 150-hour preceptorship in the ICU
    - Have BLS and ACLS, and a ton of continuing education
    - Have leadership experience from nursing school
    - 23 , healthy and extremely active
    - No prior service (but I have a lot of family in the military)
    - No waivers needed

I'm incredibly nervous about this because I have been searching for a job for over a year and have had 5 interviews at other places, no job offers. I really hope that this is what my life is leading to. I've been interested in the AF for a while now! I've been waiting quite some time for this! I hope my application isn't too bad because I had to rush to put it together. I ran into a couple of complications with the recruiter being gone and his replacement was having some issues...and then some additional issues with MEPS -- ugh. Oh well, it's almost over now!

My recruiter told me that they are taking 40 new grads this year with about 200-300 applicants... sounds like the same odds of getting into a nursing school here in California! He also told me that he only sent out 27 applications for the Northern California Area (Bakersfield and up to the Oregon border and a couple of counties in Nevada).

Congrats on your interview, tashacorinne! I have my interview next week. I'm not as nervous as I thought I would be. I had to interview with a Brigadier General for one of my letters of recommendation and he asked a lot of the questions I hear the CN will ask. I graduate next May with my BSN and I am really hoping my packet goes through this year. Did you choose OB or Med/Surg?

Med-surg! I'm not a big OB person. What about you?

Thats cool you got a reference from a Brigadier General. I got a reference from a retired Lt Col of the Navy and another reference from a retired Maj Gen of the AF. They're both nurses and I volunteer with them at my local free clinic. I hope having references from high ranks help us out!

Major General!! That is awesome!! Way to go! I chose Med/Surg as well....my recruiter said he submitted a lot of applications for OB...it doesn't matter which position I get, I just want to be in! I'm hoping the letters help me out...I have two Lt. Col, one surgeon in the AF and one family practice MD in the Army....if I am not selected this year, I will be applying again next year...it would be nice to know I have a job in place with the Air Force during my final two semesters of school....have you, or anyone else heard official number of applicants applying and the number they are selecting?

Hello all! Graduated from the Accelerated BSN program at Saint Louis University in May and taking the NCLEX next month. Just had my CN interview today. Anyone have any words of wisdom for the Board?
    Best to everyone

Welcome to the forum Tasha! You sound like you have a pretty competitive package...good luck! Jeez I can't wait for August to be over so we can finally find out who's recruiter is right about the number of applicants applying and selected lol! Hey Everyone,

I'm glad I found this forum! My packet is also in San Antonio and I have my CN interview next week. Has anyone heard how many applicants and slots there will be this year?

    Good luck to everyone!
Welcome to the forum! just read back through all the posts on his forum and you'll see that we've all heard different things from our recruiters about the number of slots and applicants. Everything from just a couple dozen to in the hundreds...so it's really anybody's guess at this point. August can't come soon enough for most of us! good luck with your interview and keep us posted...

Welcome to the forum brew! For the NCLEX just get lots of sleep, eat a big breakfast with lotsa bacon and you'll do fine lol! I thought for sure I had failed...most of my classmates felt the same way. Pretty hard to be totally prepared for...just stay positive and think patient safety and trust your gut...good luck!

I had my interview with the CN and it went pretty well. Our first choice for duty station is Alaska and the CN said he'd look us up when he retires to Alaska in two years....I'm hoping this means he recommended me for selection. Now to wait 6 weeks....I asked my recruiter how many applicants there were this year but he said he didn't want to tell me....it wouldn't change anything. This waiting will not be fun!

Did everyone else hear August 10th as the day we should find out?
