Forum for any and all discussions about the upcoming nurse transition program selection board for the USAF in 2012

Thanks UCAFblue. Just got back from my interview and checked in here. It went well and was pretty laid back. The CN just asked a few questions about physical fitness, deployments, and family's feelings on pursuing Air Force. Mainly, he shared a lot of experiences about his career path in the Air Force and the went on a small tour of the base. I imagine the anxiety with waiting will just keep creeping up and up.

Asked the recruiter again about # of spots and applicants he is working with for the NTP board. He said from his info that they are taking 19 med-surg spots and 6 OB spots. As of now, he is working with 12 applicants for the board but hinted at little things coming up that keep dwindling the numbers. I keep thinking of how awesome it would be to be in the Air Force so hopefully it becomes a reality. Finished up signing and initialing the last few papers today.

Back to the original question that I never answered about grades, experience, etc.

- 24 years old, no prior military service

- Graduated with BSN May 2012 with NCLEX pending, soon to be certified.

- Overall Nursing GPA of 3.93 with cumulative GPA of 3.7

- 2 Years of Work experience as glorified CNA on med-surg unit with capstone done on med-surg unit as well. Interests lie in ICU's but pursued med-surg due to Air Force starting in med-surg or OB w/o prior experience.

- Various leadership and volunteer positions held throughout academic career

- Various academic and workplace awards for academic/clinical/work performance

- Can't shoot straight with my Beretta pistol but they don't need to know that

Once again best of luck to everybody! I keep telling myself the decision date will be here before we know it but right now it feels so far away! Need to find an RN job to fill the downtime and make some money!

Nice job on the gpa!! Wish I'd have gotten a little better grades...oh well

Man you guys isn't it sooo frustrating that we're all hearing different numbers and info about the actual number of applicants and open positions and everything?!? My recruiter is still telling me that she's planning on submitting 6-8 applicants, and that they haven't released the actual number of positions that we will all be competing for. She says the board has to wait for congress to tell them how many spots need to be filled and that the recruiters don't get that info until very late in the game...hard to know what to believe any more. Is it August yet???

Sure makes it hard to get a good feel on the situation. I'm hoping congress approves like 150 spots and takes the pressure off. Haha, wouldn't that be nice. Only two months till August but it feels like it is going to begin to really drag on. Officially got the word this morning that I passed the NCLEX and am officially licensed!

Hi everyone!!

I've been putting my packet together for the June boards! I don't graduate until May 2013 like UCAF so I hope that doesn't hurt our chances!! I also haven't had the interview yet. Would realllly like to get that over with so I can be in the same boat.

I have a previous bachelors degree from Vanderbilt and I am now at NYU in the accelerated nursing program there. My recruiter has about 6 going into the June boards and that covers NY/NJ I'm assuming?

Good luck to all of you! hopefully we will all get in and start working at our dream job!

Thanks for joining our discussion! We've been wondering where other applicants are because we've heard there are quite a few, but who really knows. We all seem to hear different info. Best of luck at the interview and please post any updates in here!

Congratulations on passing the NCLEX SLC2012!! I bet it is a major relief to have it over with!

I was starting to feel like I was the only one trying to apply with a year of school left! Good to have you here Jess! I'm hoping it doesn't hurt our chances either, but I figure they wouldn't be letting us apply if it really had an extremely significant impact on whether or not we get selected. Good luck with your interview when you have it and with the selection board!

Hi all!

I have been perusing allnurses for some time and am just getting the nerve to reply! I love all the support nurses and student nurses give each other through bad times and good times.

I am applying for the July 25 selection board. I have a 3.97 GPA, am in student council, and have worked for a home health agency for 2 1/2 years. I still haven't had my interview yet (getting nervous!), but I passed my physical with no problems.

My recruiter told me that we were going to submit 3 letters of recommendation, but I have 4 really good ones and the people who wrote them put a lot of time and effort into them. I saw on the information packet we can submit 3-5. Do you think it would be a good idea to ask my recruiter if we can submit all 4 or do you believe they probably do not really look at them?

Also my recruiter told me he heard there were going to be 140-160 spots available for this round. I sure hope those aren't just cruel rumors!

thank you for starting this board ln75!

as i see, most of you have already begun the process earlier this year; whereasi have just begun 1.5 weeks ago.

my husband is currently ad af and we had discussed the possibility of mejoining for quite some time. just 1.5 weeks ago i decided to give a recruiter acall. i found out i had 3 weeks to get the lors turned in, meps completed andsubmit an application! thank god most of that is under the belt and all i haveleft is the chief nurse interview and finishing up my questionnaire and resume.unfortunately i won't be able to get my interview until after i submit myapplication, and apparently most nurses going for the ntp in my area also havenot had the opportunity to get this interview done.

anyway, i'm not sure if i have much going for my application for this july board.the reason being is that i moved shortly after nursing school to a differentstate to be with my husband while he completed a short training program. atthat point in time, no hospital would hire me since i could not commit a yearthere, so i volunteered.

currently, we just moved to travis afb in january and the opportunities hereare limited, so i began volunteering at dgmc. no experience since my graduationin 2010 (yikes!)

i graduated with an overall 3.4 gpa, bsn.

active license in 2 states

acls, bls completed... (awaiting july pals)

next week i begin volunteering in the or using my rn license (supervisedpatient admissions, iv access, etc.)

i've volunteered as a camp nurse and volunteered at local hospitals.

i really want to be a usaf rn, but i'm not sure if i have much of a fightingchance.
