Has anyone recently received one of the big sign-o bonuses? If so, do you mind sharing how much was left after taxes....percentage is fine if you don't want to share a number. I just want to plan for how much I will actually receive. Thanks in advance!

Taxes are usually 30-33% on bonuses.

Hi Y'all....Gosh you just reminded me that I NEVER received my sign on bonus! Dang! Guess I had better go to the Unit Administrator. I guess I'll do that when I return to NYC

As a new grad in a medium sized (400bed) hospital outside NYC I recieved a $1500 bonus after 6 mos. They gave to me in a seperate check, with NO taxes deducted! I recently relocated to a small (20 bed) rural hospital and recieved a $5K bonus, IN MY PAYCHECK! Talk about being bumped into a higher bracket! Ugh.

I think i saw about 50% of the bonus, we'll see come next year what the permanent damage is.

Hello,

I am receiving a "nice" chunk each Oct. for three years. I just received the first sum and it did end up being about 32% taken out(25k--actually got 17k). Kinda depressing except I had been undercutting my taxes at my real job and so now I think it will come close to even-ing out and I won't owe any next April. We'll see.

Also, it was weird that they broke that toral amount into three separate payments--all issued and deposited the same day(i.e., one for 6, one for 5,etc.)I'm not sure why they did that and I don't think it has any net tax effect on me but you might want to ask about that. Maybe the money comes from different cost centers?

Good luck,

Mab

So let me get this straight, $75,000 sign on bonus?????

I was offered $10K to go to Wyoming, and I though THAT was a lot!

I'm having a hard time believing that is accurate.:uhoh3:

It is, in fact, true. I am USAFR RN signed into a "critical need" specialty. It is 25k for each of three years, payable on each DOR anniversary provided I have a "good" year each of those years. (meaning you show up and do your job)

Sheesh, no one believed me when I told them my first year RN salary even though I was in SF, too. Oh well. W-2's and contract available to anyone curious. Better yet, contact an Air Force Reserve healthcare recruiter. I know mine would love to hear from ya.

Why, what did you get offered and for what?

Does the AF recruit RT's as well? I'm just curious, I've found a pretty sweet gig where I'm at. Although probably not as sweet as yours!

I don't need to see a W2, I'll take your word for it;)

I was offered a $10K bonus for a 3 year commitment at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Wyoming. Needless to say I was very interested, but pregnant wifey.............not so much.(to far from home)

First year out I worked full time in a SICU at a cardiac center outside NYC. Base salary=$69K + OT and bonus, I cleared $101K. Made a little more each year for next 3 years, while living with inlaws:angryfire. But it was worth it, banked quite a bit of scratch. Relocated to a rural (20 bed!) hospital, making $65K (+ said bonus). With only a 5 bed ICU, we do a lot of air transports and I would love to get into it down the road. Our ED has about 30,000 visits a year!

Thanks everyone! I assumed it would be taxed about 30% so it sounds like that's what I should expect. I am applying to the USAF as an OB nurse and I doubt that is a critical need area. Right now it's a generic offer (meaning I have not yet been offered a job so it's the same bonus they are telling everyone about). $43K loan repayment and $25K sign-on for a 6 year commitment. I wish I was in critical care...I'd love an extra $25K EACH YEAR!

Ouch, 6 year commitment! Still 68 grand in bonus isn't bad at all.

NICE! nurses usually don't make this kind of money let alone RT's so I am very excited for you!
