Post interview wait for the va Hosp...

Hello everyone... I'm posting this in hopes to calm myself a little bit.... I interviewed with the va hospital 2 weeks ago today... I've done my follow up emails to both the recruiter and manager and still no concrete word on where I stand... Pleasseee anyone how long did it take for you to hear back after the interview????

I got a call today with a tenative job offer. Tenative until vetpro screening and physical are done. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes quickly and smoothly.

Wow! Congrats! You're so lucky that they did get back to you within the week they said they would. I am still waiting but they did say 2-3 weeks because of the number of interviews and they had to think through the several med/surg positions they have. I guess no news is good news. Ugh....I just hate waiting. Which position did you end up getting the offer for? What state are you in? Well I'm sure it will all go rather fast for you, they seem motivated to get someone started! Much luck to you! Keep us posted...

I got the call from HR. I just have to complete the forms they sent and go for the physical and fingerprinting. They said it should take about 6-8 weeks to complete everything. :)

I will be in California. I currently live east coast. I think my willingness to relocate opened up a lot of opportunities.

Hope you hear something soon!

I'm also in California, welcome and I'm sure you will enjoy a fruitful career with the VA. I am slowly losing hope now...ugh I guess I'll keep applying. I've worked at the VA before, I'm a veteran and I interviewed very well and that gave me high hopes so it must have been my lack of acute care experience. It's hurting me but its been tough getting in anywhere to "get" the opportunity.

Hey, I am looking for a new challenge

Just wondering how things are going for you?

Stlrgrl,

Thanks for asking. It's not going so well and slightly disappointed! I am not sure what hurt me in the interview but I am still applying. I thought I did well in the interview but no call back. Weird thing is, they just recently reposted the job announcement so I'm a little confused. This leaves me wanting to re-apply but without knowing what "discounted" me first time around, I am not sure what to do. I am afraid to look foolish knowing that it will be the same NM panel again. I want to move to acute care, therefore it limits to what announcements I apply to. How is your start going? Do you have a bsn? I wonder if that hurt me or my lack of med/surge experience...just trying to narrow it down as I debate reapplying to the position.

I would call the hiring manager, or whomever interviewed you. Ask what they feel you could do to improve your interview performance and if they would consider you if you reapply. You may get constructive help. Worst they can say is no. Good luck and don't give up.

Thanks for the encouragement! You're right, I

won't give up. I have reapplied and have applied to others positions within the VA as well. Do you have a BSN? A friend told me they only really want BSN. I am currently back in school for it but I'm still 8 mo from completion.

I do have my BSN. Started out as ADN, then went back to school a few years ago. I think the fact that you are actively working towards BSN will weigh heavily in your favor against another ADN who is not. Focus on what you have to offer and your goals for the future. I get the impression that the VA wants nurses who value education and want to share what they know through mentoring and precepting

Stlrgrl,

I am totally going to stay persistent. One of your posts mentioned that a VA recruiter told you to be persistent. How is the transition to CA going for you? What VA did you get hired for? PM me if you don't mind, especially if you don't want to share on the thread. Any insight you can give me will be truly appreciated!

I PM'd you with details.
