October 2011 COT

Hello everyone! I noticed that there are several posts out there in regards to commisioned officer training (COT) that are helpful. There is an august 2011 cot thread, and I just thought that I would start the October 2011 COT thread.Along with others preparing for this, I too am nervous and would like to be as prepared as possible.

I am a new grad. That just got selected in the April boards, and have been working as a care home nurse manager in the mean time as I await the big day. I will be doing my nurse transition program (NTP) in Cincinatti, ohio and will be stationed in Lackland, located in san Antonio, TX. This was my first choice as Med. Surg. I heard that I will be working with the army in their hospital in Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC).

I am still waiting for my commission. My recruiter said it would not be until Sept.

I have a wife and two young children, and I am trying to get as much info. As possible so that we can prepare ahead of time. They want to come up for my graduation. Since we are from Hawaii, accomodations are costly and if we plan ahead we may find cheaper airfare, etc. Anyone know details on COT graduation dates and when we leave for NTP?

I know this is a lot, but I hope someone can help. Mahalo!

Have any of you been able to commission yet? I submitted my federal background check three weeks ago today, and I still haven't been given the ok to do it. I want to tell my job, but not until I commission. I also want to go to base to get my uniforms...ahhh...ugggg

Hurry up and wait .... frustrating, I know! Then suddenly time will speed up, and you'll have 1,000 things to do in a short period of time. :D

this is how I feel. I submitted my fed. background check aftergetting accepted in April and signed everything I needed to. I havebeen waiting ever since then. I spoke to my recruiter last week and he said that a bunch of us had our names mixed up along the way to congress for approval and to be placed on the scrolls. My recruiter said that they are aware of my situation and are supposedly taking care of it. I cannot move on until I get commissioned. This is not making things easy. I also want to get my uniforms and take care of everything I need to do before I leave. I don't want to leave my wife to have to stress out about everything while moving with our kids. Lunah is right about hurry up and wait. I have really tried everything I could do to be prepared, but I guess this is the lifestyle we will be facing in the air force. Are you on facebook? We have a page titled "USAF COT 12-01". I can add you on if you message me your Facebook name.

HEEEEY!!! I just got word! I will be commissioning this Thursday or Friday (whichever works best for the General doing the ceremony with me). I think I will be doing it at my old High School as a little farewell to my old life. I think they'd like that, too. Hang in there, flight!

Hey all!

I was so excited to find this thread. I, too, will be attending COT this coming October. I am freaking out, super nervous, excited as hell, and so happy all at the same time! It's getting so close! I'll give you all a quick summary of my whole application and acceptance process.

I began my application in October of 2010. I did my MEPs in December, and had my whole application completed and sent in by the end of February 2011. I was feeling pretty negative about the whole situation, due to the fact that my recruiter kept telling me over and over again how slim the chances were this year. So I had it in my head the it wasn't going to work out, but lo and behold, my recruiter called me May 15 and told me the good news! I received my acceptance letter in June (I believe), and it told me that I would be attending COT October 17, my NTP would be in Cincinnati, and I would be stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio. The next step was the background check. I went into my recruiters office and signed a few papers, did the fingerprints, and that whole process was cleared by the end of July. My commissioning took place August 16th. It was very low key and quick; I signed a bunch of papers, and then took the oath. My dad was able to swear me in, which was absolutely awesome! I got a little emotional taking the oath....did anyone else? Or am I just weird? :) Then, my recruiter called me a couple weeks ago to inform me that he had made a mistake and I was missing a few signatures. That was taken care of quickly, and now I am just waiting on my orders. According to my recruiter, they should come any day. Then he will take me shopping at Travis AFB to get all my uniforms - so excited for this! I'm sure it will be a crazy feeling the first time we put on our Air Force uniform, and I can't wait.

Thank you all for starting this thread! It makes me a little less anxious about COT knowing that other people are going through the same thing as me, so this thread will be extremely helpful. I found the Facebook group and sent a request - my name is Lindsay Carr.

Look forward to getting to know you guys!

So, in three hours I'll be the newest 2nd lieutenant in the USAF...the newspaper and ROTC and all that are gonna be there, too.

Hello Superman and everyone!

My name is Emma and I am going to COT 12-01 on 17 OCT. I'm a bit sad I found this thread only two weeks before we all leave! I'm feeling all sorts of emotions right now, ranging from excitement to panic and shear terror. I have done everything in my power to try to prepare myself (as much as possible) for what lies ahead. I have most of the uniform items ready (did anyone see we are now required to purchase the Mess dress?!), I've been doing my push-ups, sit-ups and running everyday (well almost every day) and have been researching and researching to find out more about COT.

I graduated nursing school in August 2010 and have been working as an RN in a skilled nursing facility. After COT I am doing NTP in Cincinnati (it sounds like a majority of us are going there?) and my first duty station in Lackland AFB in San Antonio.

I look forward to meeting each and every one of you. I am not sure how feasible that will be at COT, but at least we can look forward to getting to know each other in Cincinnati!

See you soon!

Emma

P.S. I looked for the COT 12-01 on Facebook and I couldn't find it?!
