i knew i couldn't be the only one! haha. i was telling my friend the other day though that behind the intense/nauseating fear is excitement, so that's gotta be a good sign, right...? i think so.

i have the same contract situation but i figure if i have to pay to end up where i want to then so be it. but that could be because i don't like the job i have right now...maybe they won't make me pay it back because i'd be leaving for the military... who knows.

Hell, I am still waiting for all of my evaluation/reference forms to be sent to my recruiter(s) so I can do the interview with the Chief Nursing Officer!! Very frustrating! I hope they will all get there soon so I can make it for the Nov. 17/Dec. 1 board review.
They have had all of my paperwork for quite some time now (I am also prior service: Army MP). My situation is ever so complicated! And somehow, I still manage to be hopeful!!

Is anyone worried about the 4 year committment? Is anyone worried about the kind of nursing support we will receive day to day working in the hospitals? I just gave my two week notice at work. I work at a nursing home where I care for 20 residents. There is very little nursing support and as a new grad, it's very difficult. I don't want to feel left on my own in a military med-surg setting as a new grad. I am worried also that I will get eaten alive by other staff as I will be a newbie. Additionally is anyone worried that our supervisors / Commander will be mean? Lol these are very childish silly questions however I would not look foward to going to work everyday if the work environment is hostile and there is no kind of support from others. Does this sound ridiculous? Does anyone else worry about this? It's four years and once you're in you're in - what if it's not what you had planned it would be? As Nov. 20th draws near weighing out the pros and cons of this decision (if accepted) is on my mind constantly!!! I would value any feedback

Speaking as a Army Nurse you should not get eatten by other staff as a new grad. In the military there are lots of younger nurses who recently where in your shoes. As far as supervisors/commanders it is like the civilian world you have some good ones and some bad ones. The 4 year committment will go by fast and during that time you will recieve more education oppuritinues then you would if you where working for a civilian hospital. The military has courses for different areas of nursing that you will not find anywhere else ie. critical care nursing, perioperative nursing etc. Civilian hospitals might have programs which teach the same but most will not give you the same level. Also on the 4 year committment, if you take a sign on bonus at alot of places it is for 2 years which is only 2 years less then the military committment. Good luck with the board.

i worry about the exact same things! haha. a friend of mine just got stationed in newport news and said she is loving it (only nine months of new grad experience and no prior military). she said she'd do it again in a heartbeat and is so much happier than when she was in a civilian hospital. i worry about the same things, but any of those could happen any where and you can't really just up and quit every time someone is mean to you. this is what i keep telling myself, anyway. but yes, every single day all i think about is if this is the right decision and i go over and over the pros and cons...it's exhausting really.

Bingo. Because we won't know if it's for us until we are actually there!

What is everybody elses recruiter telling them? Im tired of waiting. Is it wrong to get a civilian nursing job for 3 mos then quit to go back into the Air Force?
Nothing is wrong with working a few months if you need the money. The only problem is do you tell them your true intentions or go into it with the idea that it might not happen at all.

Can we clarify? I've seen November 6, 11, and 17th as dates for the USAF nursing board.

Here's what I heard:

The board met last week and it could take 2-6 weeks for a decision to be passed down??
Also, there was a huge number of applicants so a second board meeting is set for December??

I've been promised January since last March and now I'm being told March 2010. A little frustrated about that, a year for an app? really?

Has anyone heard any selection results since/if the board met?
