i got a job because of the wait for the air force. i couldn't be unemployed that long and don't know for sure that i'll get in so i had to make a living in the mean time.

I should have taken that approach, however, plan B for me right now is the PHS... so either way I have to wait abnormally long time periods for one of my top 2 job choices.

I also made the mistake of telling my plan C that I was intent on joining the AF... of course no one wants to hire you if you are potentially leaving in 2 months.

What is everybody elses recruiter telling them? Im tired of waiting. Is it wrong to get a civilian nursing job for 3 mos then quit to go back into the Air Force?

I heard from my recruiter that the Board (Air Force) meets Nov. 2nd with results released around Nov. 20th. It's torture waiting! I hope I have the correct dates! I also thought we received a letter in the mail - rather than a phone call??

I got a job in the mean time and if accepted into the Air Force will be leaving that job sometime in December. I will have only worked there for 4 months or so by then. If you need the money or the experience, I would say go ahead and get a job. When you get into the Air Force and you tell them you will be leaving - I don't think they will be too upset. I let one of my supervisors know (in confidence) that I was waiting to hear from the Air Force - she was not angry but supportive. Anyway good luck!!

i spoke with my recruiter yesterday for about an hour. he said the board meets the nov. 3rd and your fate is decided by the 6th. you're either selected or non-selected. if you're non-selected he'll hear pretty quick and might call by the 8th or 10th, but he also said they could have finished everything early so hearing back that soon isn't necessarily bad. in his words "if i call you on the 8th don't freak out until i tell you to freak out. just call me back when you can." anyway, if you're selected they find a place for you to do NTP and a permanent duty station for you to go to. once all that is straightened out is when you'll hear back. my recruiter said he's gotten results a week before the estimated release date (which is nov. 20 in this case) but he's also heard back two weeks after, so it all just depends.
so in conclusion, yes, the waiting is torture and there's no definite time you'll know by for sure. and SOMEONE will know by friday if you're selected or not but the 6th-20th is added torture time!

on a side note- i haven't told a single person at my job that i'll be leaving- and i have a contract which may make things messy. i dislike my job so very much that it's hard to get out of bed and go every week but the fact that i'll hear back soon is helping me make it through it. only a few more weeks!!

hello to all USAF NTP program hopefuls. i was told by my recruiter that the first week of november is when boards meet and that decisions should be made by november 20th. but depending on the reviewers, we may not actually get a call from them until the first week of december. i'm hoping that what others have posted here is true. i'm also very anxious waiting for that call.

question- is the anxiety from the weight of the decision to join increasing with each passing day or is that just me? i'm excited but then i think "whoa, what am i doing- we're talking four years here! maybe i won't be as happy as i think i'll be..." just curious if that's a common thought process or if i'm freaking out too much. COT is becoming a much scarier prospect...

I was at the recruiters last week finishing up the last couple docs we needed. She showed me the bulletin with board deadlines and I saw Nov. 3 deadline for Nov 17 boards and Nov. 17 deadline for Dec. 1 boards. My recruiter said she was gonna put mine thru for the Nov. 17 deadline to go before boards on Dec. 1. It looks like its a max 4 day process. She said the only hold up is if they discover a missing document or something and they assured me they thought I wasnt missing anything so im excited to.

I also signed up for the 6 year option, in the reserves. I wanted to do the active duty but my hospital also gave me a scholarship in exchange for 2 years and made me sign a contract saying I would have to pay back my training pay during preceptorship if I didnt complete my 2 years. So I am pretty much stuck doing my 2 years if I dont want to have them on my back.
