Navy OR Nursing

How long is the wait usually for a spot as an OR Nurse at a large medical treatment facility? I'll be a new Navy nurse very soon and I've very interested in OR nursing. Should I let my chain of command know my desire to become an OR nurse very early on?

Do Navy OR nurses have the opportunity to become certified as a Certified Registered Nurse First Assist?

Any insight would be helpful.

Getting into the Navy's OR nursing program is not difficult at all. I have seen many nurses apply and get accepted into training program without difficulty. From what I last heard, there is a shortage of OR nurses in the Navy so I am sure you should be able to get in as well once you submit a package. I believe you have to be at your command for atleast 2 years before you can apply, but I am not certain.
