Navy fy 2010 acceptance

by Thipp02

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything from the Navy Nursing Boards? I sent my package to the boards at the end of August and I am still waiting. I am starting to get nervous. I am applying for the 2010 fiscal year so I dont know if they wait to start reviewing until after October 1.

I'm in the same boat as you; I sent in my packet mid-September and just heard back that I was missing a medical test result. Now I'm waiting to get that from the lab to send in and I still have no idea when the packet will actually be reviewed by the board. I am so nervous right now, the worst part is my fellow classmates are starting to look for jobs and I have no idea if I will need to start doing that too or not. Maybe they won't start reviewing packets until the board meets again in October, not sure.

When are you hoping to go to ODS?

I hope to go to ODS in august 2010. I am applying for the NCP and I dont graduate till May 2010. I keep emailing my recruiter and he keeps saying hang in there. I wish they would tell us when to expect a decision. I just want to know either way so I can start planning for when I graduate, but I guess all we can do is wait.

Farawaysoclose, I am in the same situation as you are. I am graduating in December from UNC-Chapel Hill and my recruiter finally got my packet out at the end of september. He told me that I could expect my packet to make the October board, it is the first of the fiscal year. From the reading and research I have done, if your packet is in for the October board then you should find out an answer by Halloween. As far as ODS, once you get your acceptance you are then given information for scheduling your ODS class.

My recruiter called me today and told me that there is a board meeting this week. So hopefully we are going to find out soon. He did tell me that he can call and find out if my package will go in front of the board at this meeting or the next.

Thanks for the info, UFGrad, which PCSs did you put on your wish list?
Good luck, Thipp, fingers crossed. I wonder if packets for NCP and packets for direct commission get reviewed by the same board.

My recruiter told me the board makes the decision's for all the nurses in the Navy, even the reserves. So your package should be at this one too.

Farawaysoclose, I put in for Bethesda as my first choice, then San Diego, and then Norfolk. I was in the Army for 4 years at The Old Guard at Fort Myer, in Arlington, VA. So I am very familiar with DC and love the area. My wife worked as a nurse at a local hospital and my son was actually born at Bethesda. Where did you put for your placement? Hearing that the board is this week is definitely a little nerve racking, but i have so much work going on for school that I don't even think I can think about it. Add to that the fact that my wife is just about due with our second child, my life is a little hectic.

Thanks, Thipp, it'll be great to finally know for sure; totally anxious right now.
My first choice is San Diego since it's close to home for me and I've always wanted to live there; plus their supposed to have a good mental health floor which is my area of interest. Bethesda is my second choice since I have a good friend in the area and I'd like to live in the DC area; Portsmouth is my 3rd. Congrats on your second child! Sounds like you've got alot going on!
