Navy Flight Nursing

Hi all,
I am a senior nursing student in the Navy's Nurse Candidate Program. I am becoming very interested in the flight nursing program. I understand there is not a large amount of them, and that it is very difficult to get into, but I would like to know more about it.

How would I apply for the area? What would be some things that might help me before I apply? How much time do you need to be in the Navy before you can apply?

Basically, I've tried searching for information online and have come up short, so if anyone knows anything about it, please pass it on. Thank you so much in advance!!!

Candice

You are correct in stating it is a very difficult program to get into. In the Navy, I believe you must complete your first tour of duty, which is usually 3 years and apply leaving your second tour, which can be as short as 2 years. The risk you take in hanging all your hopes on this dream is that only 2 nurses get selected each year. So depending on how many apply that particular year will determine the competitiveness you will be facing. Something else you may want to consider is doing a service transfer to the Air Force as they train and accept more into their program. Good luck.
