Specializes in Emergency Department.

Hey everyone,

I was just trying to get a group chat started on people who have sent in their application packet to the Air Force Commissioning board for the Nurse Transition program for next year! Who has sent in for OB and who's for Med/Surg?

Were you able to get in your packet for this July or are you looking to apply July 2013? I sent in for Med/surg but I wish there was an option for "really don't care just give me something!" haha.

Hahah I hear ya! I sent in my packet for is month's board, but for OB. Apparently it's harder to fill the OB, and I have ALWAYS wanted to be a NICU nurse...but overall, I just wanna be a military nurse!

I went for med/surg because I thought it might give me a wider range of experience. I've always wanted to be a NICU nurse as well...Hopefully we can both get there some day!!

Yeah that's true...you can specialize in lots of different places as med/surg...but my dream was to be a NICU nurse, and deploy overseas to help wounded soldiers. The colonel that I had my interview with said OB nurses get deployed as med/surg nurses since we all have the same basic skills. So hopefully it all works out! What did u list as ur top place to be stationed? And when do/did u graduate with ur BSN?

I listed Eglin AFB in Florida as my top choice...would also love to be stationed overseas someday in England or Germany. I will graduate with my BSN in May 2013. What about you? What is your top place to be stationed/have you already graduated?

Oh very cool. I pul Lackland as my first and Eglin as my second. But I, too, would LOVE to go to England or Germany. I graduate this December with my BSN. :)

Awesome! I graduate in December as well (I feel like its far away but I know it'll be here soon!). I put Eglin as my first and Lackland second, I heard Eglin was a great starting base and lackland is harder to get into unless you do NTP there.

Does your school do a preceptorship? I chose Adult Med/surg at the VA here as my first choice. I love love working with our Vets and have had 3 rotations at the VA which is what prompted me to look around and see if the military was an option. I wanted to go straight into the AF as enlisted after graduation, but I couldn't pass up a great scholarship to one of our state schools.

Hopefully if selected I will get to do both things I have wanted to do and work with amazing people to boot!

That's so awesome! Yeah, December will be here before we know it..I was pumped to be able to graduate with a BSN in 3.5 years! Hard work, but glad it's almost over!

I wanted to go to Lackland cuz I heard it was the most heavily deployed, so hopefully I'll be able to volunteer to go! And yes, we have a preceptorship that I do this coming semester, but I'm doing it in labor and delivery. We'll see! I really hope I get selected! Eek! August can't come soon enough! I'm ready to hear!

hey ya'll! so my recruiter told me that ALL of the stuff has to be in TX (i think san antonio) by July 23. I'm not sure if they pushed the date back or what? So we will probably hear something more towards September if all of that info is accurate. My physical is tomorrow morning and some how I'm still applying to the July boards (last thing I have to do!). Woo hoo! Now sit around and wait right?

I put McGuire, NJ as my first location choice then Charleston SC!! :) GL to you all hope to talk more soon!

Are you applying as a new grad to the NTP? I was told the application process closed on 10 July and the board meets 24 July
