Hey everyone,

I was just trying to get a group chat started on people who have sent in their application packet to the Air Force Commissioning board for the Nurse Transition program for next year! Who has sent in for OB and who's for Med/Surg?

Hbaum, I graduated Feb 2012, started working OR March 2012. My recruiter said that about 20% of all applicants put in for OB and about 20% of the openings will be for OB. It seems OB will be an extremely tough one to get into since they may only have about 6 openings out of lets say 40 OB applicants.I'm not sure on the number of OB openings or applicants. I just threw numbers out there:). I really hope we both get selected for OB! So happy to see another on here for OB.

Ahhhh! There are slim pickings, but hopefully we both get picked! Where are you from?

Hbaum, As I don't know how to do the quote feature, I'll just answer directly. Lol. I'm from Idaho but moved to Texas almost two years ago, due to my husband having orders to be an instructor at Sheppard. So, I went through the Texas recruiter. How about you?

Oh that's awesome! I loooove Texas (hence why I put Lackland as my first choice base!) I'm from the Chicago-land area. :) Late August can't come soon enough! I'm ready to know!

Hbaum,Wichita falls. I agree. August can not come soon enough. It's not just waiting for August, but the end of it or early September. Uuugghhhhh, can be any more torturous? Lol Reading these daily blogs do help put a smile on my face and ease the tension:)

Good luck everyone!!!

I am so glad I am on vacation right now to relax! I caught a big blue claw crab this morning too so hopefully luck is on my side!! :-D We will find out the exact number of applicants and selected after this week probably. Do you think it will only take them one day to determine all of the applications? My recruiter sent in 3-4 for Arizona and one is an automatic in because he/she is in the Air Force already and went through the nursing commission program. 56 doesn't seem like too many for the whole west coast though. I was expecting 300+ applicants given what the economy is like!

Agreed!!! I was expecting a lot more too! Hopefully that means not many of us won't make it! Good luck to everyone!

Application Status/ Info:

Started the grueling process of applying to the USAF as a direct commissioned officer in the nurse corp. about a year ago. I was not selected for the clinical nurse position I had applied for because according to the selection board my work experience was not substantial enough to qualify for the position I applied for.

After the bad news I was encouraged to apply for the USAF (NTP) Nurse Transitioning Program which is a program that prepares new graduate nurses for Medical-surgical and OBGYN positions after commissioning.

I applied to NTP program, completed all my paperwork in March, 2012, went to MEP, and also finish my interview with the Chief Nurse which I did pretty well on.

At the current moment I am waiting for the selection board for July 2012 just like the others on this forum. So I hope we all get some good news.

I will post updates to my progress here.

Welcome PrinceRNAF! Glad to have u! So did you apply to the NTP your first go around?
