I have been following the thread for FY 2013 Air Force nursing and realize that many of the clinical nurses, including myself, were made alternates for FY 2014. The only information I have received from my recruiter is that I will find out sometime in April or May if I am selected or not. Has anyone received more detailed information about the upcoming boards? What is the likelihood of selection for us alternates?

I am also interested to hear from anyone currently serving as a clinical nurse in the Air Force who can describe the day-to-day life and current news regarding the nursing specialty. I am 28 years old, have been an acute care RN at a level I facility since 2008, served seven years in the Army National Guard, and am a family man with two children. My wife, also an RN, and I are excited that I am an "alternate" for FY 2014 because it seems likely I will be selected. We have anxieties about active duty because I have never served on active duty.

Anyone know when the next 2 boards will be? I think I saw on here before in January. Not sure when the next will be and cut off dates would be great to know too. Thanks!

Last year's February board was on the 19th and the cutoff was about 4 weeks prior. As there are only 2 FQ boards per year (the July one being for NTP), the next would be early October 2014. I'm no longer applying and don't know the exact dates anymore.

For those of you on the alternate list have you heard anything regarding your status yet?

PNPDNP,

I guessing you are a PNP…are you an alternate from Oct or are your applying to the next board? I am a PNP and was selected in Oct. I am excited to hear from another PNP!

Hi Candi2188,

I submitted my application in Dec '13 for the Jan'14 board. I was notified this week that I am 1st alternate for PNP. However, in a previous thread someone mentioned there being 2 PNP slots for FY2014.

I am super excited for you so please keep in touch. Currently, I am focusing on my physical fitness and trying to keep busy by taking extra courses. I am enrolling in an PNP-AC program in the fall as a back up plan if I am not selected. My recruiter said I should expect to hear something in July.

I am reading through all of these threads desperately trying to understand the alternate process. From my understanding I will not have to reapply, my application will just be rolled over to the next board (per my recruiter). I have 7 years of experience as a PNP-PC.

Where will you be stationed after COT?

PNPDNP,

When I applied in oct I understood that I was the only PNP applying for that board. My recruiter did tell me that there were only 2 PNP positions for the year (that could have changed). If you don't get picked up by Oct I would apply again for FY 2015. If AF is really the route you want to go then I would hold off on entering an AC program. I have been told that all AF PNPs are used in a primary care setting. Sounds like you have a lot of experience and I am sending good vibes your way!

We are heading to Whiteman AFB, MO after COT. It was not on my preference list but it is not too bad ;)

Thanks so much for your reply! Hope to see you in the threads. Best of luck at COT & Whiteman AFB

Is this the threat for 2014?

Bayern,

I think so. It's become a mix of FY2014 and FY2015.

Anyone else attending COT in August? I just found out I've become a select after being alternate #3 from these past October boards. I'm still waiting to hear about first duty station and orders.

Okay. I too just found out that I am attending in August. Station would be Keesler AB in Mississippi.

I know there is a link on how to prepare for the COT and what/not to buy before COT....anyone?

Congrats! How long after finding out you were selected did you find out about duty station?

I think there are lists on the COT website about some of that information. I'm happy to have at least a few months to figure all that out.
