Army Nurse recruiting freeze

I had heard that there was a freeze going on for active duty accessions. Is there any truth to this and why? I would have chatted up my recruiter but he is still on leave for a week yet.

Eric, your use of military bearing is outstanding. However, I'm an 1LT, as you will be soon. When I pick up CPT next year, we will still both be Company Grade Officers. Therefore, feel free to address me as Corvette Guy here, and if ever we meet in person you can call me Cary. Now, if I'm a CPT by then & your a 1LT, then you can give me a military salute, Soldier.

;)

Ho Ho, Corvette Guy,

Roger that! I was just bein' respectful of a person senior to me in years, as my momma taught me to. And though we may, for a time, hold the same rank, your date of rank would make you the senior officer to me. I'm all about showing respect both in civilian life and military, where it is due! :wink2:

Respectfully,

Eric

Hello, I'm new to allnurses. I too had a package to go before the boards this month. My problem is I'm not sure if the military will make a great career for me being I'm a single parent. I live in a military town and I love it. Just waiting on my recruiter to get back with me to let her know what I would like to do.

Hello OK! My son went to Army BCT at FT Sill.

You will need fill out a Family Care Plan, which means you have someone that can care for your minor children while your OCONUS.

Good luck!

FT Sill is close to Lawton, OK...

I don't cherish the Army Nurse Corps, but I do have great pride in being a Soldier in the Army Nurse Corps. It is not a perfect environment, and I dread the day when I get orders for OCONUS [yet, will accept w/o hesitation]. However, I can honestly say that [iMHO] the AMEDD & ANC is far more respectful, as well more team oriented, to their nurses than in civilian nursing sector. Plus, I feel honored knowing I'm serving our country, the USA, which I do cherish.

BTW, I do try to get the news out about the AMEDD/ANC and how others may want to become members in such a fine healthcare organization.

WOW!!! Corvette Guy, I could not have said that any better, and it would have taken thrice the number of words. Well put, soldier!

Hey janae0704,

Greetings and welcome from a relative newbie, myself. Deciding on a career in the armed services is a serious question to consider, probably doubly so with a dependant child whom you quite possibly could be seperated from for a year or more. That would be a tough choice for me to make. Still, as Corvette Guy quite ably illuminated above, there are reasons far greater than any individual's issues to reflect upon as well.

Have you considered other options, such as service as a GS nurse working in a military hospital, or perhaps part time in the Army Guard or Army Reserve to give you a best of both worlds kinda thing?

Regards,

Eric

Thanks lot Eric and Corvette Guy

Corvette Guy,

The rumor about turning nurses into enlisted was a rumor I had heard while working as a nurse for Landstuhl 7 years ago. It was at the time when they were getting rid of nurses with early retirement and this was one of the other crazy ideas that had come up at that time. Hopefully it will never come up again.

You do know LPN/LVNs in the AMEDD are enlisted? Anyway, I do appreciate your feedback and glad you did not take offense to my original post.
