Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass... Read More

I though we showed up in our civilian clothes and in processed and during that time they would tell us what to put on and where to go. It made me smile thinking of you at the airport with your green belt on though!

Hahaha that would be funny. Not only would I be waking around like a chicken with my head cut off, but I would have a reflective belt on. I would look like such a nerd LOL.

Anyway, I went back and read that email again, and I think you are right. It doesn't mention the uniform until later in the email, where it says report back at 2pm to finish in-processing.

I feel like we have so much info., I'm bound to get something wrong.

DaniRN421, Enjoy the drive, just did it last JAN from D.C. to Houston. Make sure that you bring some shorts cause you'll be needing them. I spent 4 years at Fort Belvoir, miss the D.C. area.

So when we report do we report to Building 592, even if we are permanent party and are getting down 10 days early to find lodging? Anyone have any good hotel suggestions that are close to base but won't break the bank. The one on post is $106 a night and I don't really want to pay that much especially considering I have no idea how long I'm gonna have to stay in a hotel, plus it will probably take a while to get reimbursed as well.

I'm nervous because where I'm permanent party most everything is different. I do look forward to getting down there and getting the process started however.

I am leaving a week from today (Sunday March 3) to make it on my report date of March 4.I'm driving down from SW Virginia.. looks like it's gonna be around an 18 hour drive give or take.

I haven't received an email yet so I'm hoping I do soon giving me some more information.. haha.

What email are you expecting? Go to the AMEDD BOLC web site for the welcome letter, packing list, and so on...

An 18 hours drive is unsafe.. you should split it up. You will be reimbursed MALT Plus - mileage plus per diem expenses - for your trip. You are authorized (correct me if i'm wrong) 450 miles driving the first day and 350 each subsequent day. You are only reimbursed for this time, however, if you actually take the time to make the drive. You can do it in a day if you want... you're still a civilian

If you are reporting for USAGPAN then go to D Co 187... Delta Company, 187th Medical Battalion. It's on Gorgas Circle. Go inside and ask for Staff Sergeant Conlon. Wear the proper PT uniform if possible, including reflective belt and white socks with no logo above the ankles.

Try to get contact info for some of your classmates who will arrive before you and call them for the inside scoop on where to go / what to do, etc...

Look up your per diem rate and make sure you're under that. We stayed at a La Quinta because of the decent cost and decent free breakfast. Drury Hotels have a good free breakfast too. I would look at places to rent online now and start calling to line up viewings as soon as you arrive. There is a good rental market here and you should be able to find something within a couple of days if you're on top of it and not tooooo picky..

I am going to split it up. I plan on driving about 12 hours the first day and then I should have only 6 hours of driving the second day, plus it will let me get there before the 1600 NLT time.

I have printed the packing list and seen the welcome letter. I was just talking about the email that everyone else keeps saying they are getting welcoming them to BOLC and such. My orders do tell me to report to D Co 187 but doesn't have an address so that is what I was wondering.... thank you for that.

I have already talked to a realtor and have a couple properties that my wife and I are leaning towards. So I'm hoping to view them the first day or so that I can move in quickly.

I contacted lodging and they told me that I can stay anywhere as long as it was less than $106/night. I also assumed I was supposed to report in just civilian clothes based on the welcome letter but I could be wrong here as well.

Thanks for all your help chudder.

Close, according to the JFTR you have 400 miles per day to travel. With that said it also states that if your trip is more than 800 miles than you should not be able to drive (although I have seen this done plenty of times). Just be careful so that when you go to close your voucher you don't get hit with having to pay for some of the trip yourself. Enjoy the ride and good luck.
