Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Specialties Government

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

Sequestration killed my commission, was told that there are no reserve slots open near me and no money in budget for new lts this FY 2013.

Haha, I know.... Probably a better acceptance rate than AD ANC

Hello Everyone,

Is there anyone else who has not received orders for BOLC 2013 going AD? I graduated Dec 12 took my NCLEX and Passed. Now I am just waiting for orders. This sitting around and waitng is driving me crazy. Ive been looking for a job but no hopes with that yet especially being a new grad with no experience. I just hope my orders come soon. Money is really becoming an issue

Make sure you keep some funds available for travel to bolc, and for uniforms. You can get all uniforms for about 1000$ though. Travel expenses are a toss up.

I'm prior service Air Force and Army and currently on my third year of a 5 year ADSO as an AN (1LT). I'm telling you now turn around and go back, Army nursing sucks!!! It's a parallel universe compared to civilian nursing! I was where you were at , except I was in the ANCP program, did BOLC, I mean drunkfest, at Sam Houston. Yep go directly passed GO and Do not collect 200. It's a joke! Its all old school nursing from the 80's, everything from equipment to team nursing, and oh lets not forget the furlough taking affect 16 Jun!! Yep be prepared to work long hours and yea your days off are not your days off!! You have to come in to the hospital and do APEQS training as well as all your other appointments plus mandatoary volunteering into the community and mandatory fun time. Yep welcome to Army nursing suckaaa!!!

I do not get it. If you thought Army nursing was anything like civilian nursing, you did not do your research. The complaints I see you just rendered are all service complaints. Not sure about you, but before I signed up I knew i was giving up a few things. To say the least I knew i would not be setting my own work schedule. You seem to hate your career from the start. You were not satisfied with the training at BOLC, you do not agree with your schedule, you even complain about helping the community. Is that not the reason you joined? To help the community? If you joined to help only yourself than you joined for the wrong reasons. I really do not see the Army as the problem with you, all I see is a person that did not do enough research before making a big choice, and now hates the world for it. Good luck with your career honestly.

LOL I laugh at your response, all I can say is that Im not the only one who feels this. Until you have walked in my boots you have no room to talk!!! When fellow colleagues say they are embarassed to say they work here, When you lack the Basic things needed to do Basic nursing care there are issues that are wrong. Personally your opinión means nothing to me ive been a parachute rigger in the AF spilled blood in the sand with my fellow soldiers in Iraq as a rank commander and even have a friend who has a másters in Nursing leadership who says Army nursing is a joke!! Maybe its you WHO needs to rexamine yourself, I think so very little of ppl like you who criticize ppl like me who wear the American flag on our shoulder and yet you offer no concrete solutions, to me you are nothing more than part of the problem!!! Bravo two teo out!!!

Not to get into a flexing contest but, i was there for the invasion. And not as a rigger. As an FO I did my fighting with 101st, also there with 3rd ID also there with 1st Armor. So, flexing deployment experience means nothing in this argument. You're angry at the world because you made a bad choice and did not do the research before making said choice. That is the problem. As I said good luck with your career, I hope you take a long hard look at the rosters of our fellow brothers and sisters that have not come back while bring allowed the privilege to serve. Maybe your schedule complaints will still hold water, maybe not.

So you think you're special? You think you are the only person to ever be deployed and watch friends die beside you? You are not!

It sounds like you are bitter because you got screwed by the big green weenie. You are not the only one, not the first, and certainly not the last. So suck it up, watch a little less "A Few Good Men" and get over yourself.

On a side note, for someone who hates Army Nursing perhaps you should change your handle name.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

To be fair, I get a sense of why ArmyCRNA2B is frustrated and unhappy. I was not prior service, but I know people who have found difficulty in transitioning not only to the officer side, but also to MEDCOM. I have had my days of frustration, too. I just don't vent about it here. :-) So please, let's not make personal jabs at each other, mkay?

I know plenty of LT's in the Army Nurse corps who give the good with the bad but you are so discouraging. I know what I signed up for and at the end of the day I chose nursing because its bigger than me its about helping others and not just being a metocore nurse. This is just YOUR opinion and YOUR experience. Everyone is entitled to their own but don't be a joy kill or so negative about it. Cmon LT false motivation is better than no motivation. Get it together how do you expect to mentor or lead others with an attitude like that smh.
