Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

Brandonscott,

I got my orders a few weeks ago and my report date is Feb 28. I will be in town the week before getting my house set up though.

Specializes in EMT, ER, Homehealth, OR.
I have to have orders for this though correct? Just call the transportation office closest to where I live?

Yes, you have to have orders. Sorry but I am not sure where you find their phone number.

So you'll be there within the next few days?? Do you know where you are staying in the mean time? Are you renting off post?

Here is a helpful link: Move.mil -

Click on "Transportation Offices" to find the one closest to you. I used move.mil to set up my move.

I got my orders a little under two days after my RFO was submitted.

It official, flipped my packet to reserves from AD OML, board meets March 26th. Hopefully it goes well ***fingers crossed*** looking forward to serving

Okay so I got my orders today and my report date is 4 March, which is in like 11 days. I think this is to give me 10 days to look for housing before everyone else gets there 14 March. It doesn't say much else though. So should I contact lodging there where we report to set up temporary lodging while finding housing?

You can stay wherever you want in San Antonio without getting a statement of non-availability from housing. Just keep your receipts for everything.

You can use TLE days at your home of record or in San Antonio, if you need to be out of your house for whatever reason

So I have to pay out of pocket until I find a place to live? If my orders says to report 4 March is there any leigh way on this since it is just to look for housing or do I need to be there on that day?

You get 10 days TLE for househunting that will reimburse for lodging and per diem... we found our house within two or three days and had the keys a few days later. We camped out in our empty house until our household goods could be delivered.

I doubt you'll have any luck getting your report date changed.

Less than a week now everyone! Super excited! Passed my CCRN yesterday and packing today! How are you all doing getting ready? Anybody else flying in on the 28th? If so what time are you arriving? Maybe we can share a taxi?

Congrats on passing your CCRN!!!...I feel like I have been packing all week! Due to being so busy packing, I have completely stopped working out, which is not good. I can't wait to just get there, and get settled in. My husband and I are driving out to Texas from Northern VA. We are leaving Monday morning!!!!

Random question for everyone. I received and email a few weeks ago saying to report in the summer PT uniform "including the reflective belt". However, my recruiter told me not to bother buying the reflective belt, because they will make us wear different colored ones while we are there. Has anyone else heard anything about this? I don't want to get attention on the first day, because I failed to follow directions. Yet, I am getting conflicting information. Any advice would be great!!!
