Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

Do I have to buy the ACU with pants or can I choose a skirt?

Lizzardmommy, yes! Let's do talk about being roommates once we get our orders (uh!...I'm still waiting on mine too!) and have our travel arrangements set. I think it would be awesome if we could arrange it!

Yeah!!! Super excited! I will PM you when I get my orders! I am hoping to get my ticket soon as prices go up closer to the travel date. Are you thinking of coming a day or so early or arriving on report date? Right now I am so overwhelmed by the clothes situation it is sad and quite pathetic. No matter what super excited to meet you!

ASUs are usually worn with the skirt -- for females. :D I have both the skirt and the pants -- I have tattoos on my legs that show with the skirt unless I wear three layers of pantyhose and don't feel like breathing/eating/drinking at whatever function. Pants can be worn but are technically not allowed at formal functions -- females should wear the skirt in that case. I wore the pants to a court martial, though.

The packing list for BOLC says that we need both the pants and skirt

Silly me...of course we do...ugh! The fun of being a girl! Do we need both regular dress shoes and pumps then too?

Should I dare ask about the court martial? Nah! So then if I am a skirt kinda girl do I really have to buy the pants?

Lizzardmommy, Soooo excited to meet you!!! I too am extremely overwhelmed (uniforms, moving, and making sure I pack everything necessary!) but filled with excitement! I "plan" on being in San Antonio on the 27th and staying with a family friend that night. As of now I am going to drive from Colorado. Let's PM and figure out details!...not sure how to PM on here yet :)

PM by clickin on my name or whoevers and then selecting the PM tab! Are you driving because you want your car? I was suprised to see that for myself coming from Michigan the plane tickets are probley less than gas would cost me. Of course I will have no car while I am there which might get expensive but the drive to TX is looong and as the mother of 5 I am not used to being alone in a car for that long!

I asked the same question when I was at Marow White trying everything on. They told me that as long as I have a pump, I can wear it with the pants and the skirt. However, you can't wear the regular dress shoes with the skirt. So, I ended up just getting a high gloss pump from them. The heel is so low that you don't even realize that you are wearing one.

On the topic of girl problems, is anyone else worried about how they are going to wear their hair? I am having some major issues with this. I know what the rules and regulation are, but my hair is too short for a neat bun, and too long to wear down. I have a feeling I will be getting yelled several times for this.

I have been growing my hair out so I can bun or braid it. If it were too short I would probley go for a sleek short cut. I am trying to wrap my brain around the idea of no pony tails!Does anyone know if we can buy any running shoe? Everything I see says there are no regs on the running shoe.

That is why my wife is driving, so she has her car with her. She also drives an Accord Hybrid so the gas will be super cheap from the east coast of Florida to Ft Sam. I felt way more comfortable for her to have her own car there, so as not to depend on anyone for transportation. She also cut her hair super short. About the length of Ellens hair. So she doesnt have to spend much time messing with it. You ladies are gonna have an awesome time. You will remember the people you meet at basic for the rest of your careers, not to mention your basic is a cakewalk compared to enlisted basic. You will have time to make some close friends. Have fun while your out there, but pay attention to detail.
