Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Specialties Government

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

Good afternoon everyone, So my wife is at BOLC and she has begun her classes. Please do not take this and not prepare but she told me that compared to Basic, BOLC is summercamp. Like all Army schools it is a hurry up and wait game but, the cool thing is she was offered for her first PT test to be the record for her class or she could take one at the end, so my advise is prepare and get it over with in the beginning. If you have any questions please ask and I will ask her and respond. Best wishes and again good luck to all.

I completely agree! It is so much more stressful waiting for my dates. However, I did hear from the branch manager today and he said that he submitted my RFO request for Feb. 28th... What does that mean?

lol, well heck yeah it is summer camp, they get cell phones, weekends out, stay in barracks type rooms, and well, they are officers lol.

Anyone on here have any recommendations on apartments in San Antonio/Ft. Sam?? I am beginning the process of looking for a place to move and it is a bit overwhelming. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You know officially you have been pulled off the OML?

LOL, yeah not just weekends. They basically live a permanent party life but train. I guess my issue is that these will be future leaders in the Army and pehaps should know the basics so they can ensure all Soldiers under them maintain the standard and are able to be knowledgable in what Be, Know and Do actually represent. But yeah they are medical officers so I guess it is a different arena. They stay in 2 man rooms that are pretty nice and they are cleaned by housekeeping everyday!!!!, except on weekends. What in the world, No area beautification parties!!! LOL

I'm not going to lie, you just relieved a lot of my stress and nerves!

How did the branch manager contact you? Phone? Email?

lol walking with buddies to the chow hall, oh crap spot CSM, point to the ground and act like you are picking up trash, whew he is gone.

LOL. The funny thing she did tell me is that the only one really chewing people out is the actual company 1SG. He reminds her of the CSM from we were Soldiers.

Has the official list for usagpan come out for who they are pulling off the OML?

lol, IN Korea I had the meanest CSM of all time. He once dropped his phone while walking into the battery. I seen him drop it from far away, ran and grabbed it and went into the battery to hand it to him. When I walked in he was gone and CQ said he just walked out the other door, As I came back around I seen him walking to me, I said CSM your phone just fell, He snatched it outta my hands, yelled at me "where did you get this?" I said you dropped it walking inot the battery. He said "The only thing I drop is uppity specialists." "Get down and start pushing." From that point I hated the dude lol.
