Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

Wow. Yea so what exactly does that mean and when is "currently more to follow."?? Let's hope it's good.
Most likely not a good thing knowing the army!

But who knows really... Heavy traffic = emails + phone calls etc... i.e people are talking about the issue.

More to follow = I'll let you know the results of all the discussion..

Good luck all... hope the money is there for you!

No my ako expired years ago, hers has not yet been issued. Are you unable to send an email to an ako address, using a civilian address, i did not know this? We still havent heard anything after signing the contract and LoI. Hurry up and wait I guess lol.

I signed my LOI and my contract as a 66H a week before Christmas. No word yet, but still hopeful about going to BOLC in March. My recruiter had me register on AKO about a week ago. Because I don't have a CAC yet he was my sponsor and I was able to get an account. Maybe try that route.

Specializes in Burns/Trauma.

Okay, here is a new fun twist! Paperwork done, however, no orders for me until I take my CCRN. I was planning on taking it anyway at my current employers expense before I left, but now with the added pressure of no orders until I test and pass! Oh my! It's almost too much. I am packing my home of 13 years, trying to emotionally prepare 5 kids (1very angry teen), renewing all my other certifications, and still working 50 hrs a week while trying to work out regularly. Pity party for me! Not! I know others would have loved to have been chosen, I am just a bit overwhelmed right now. It will pass...I hope....

You can send a email to an AKO address using a civilian email address. I have all kinds of civilian emails on my AKO account.

Recruiter is now working on setting up my wife with an AKO, so we will take that route and see if we can't get some information. Thanks for the tips everyone.

My wife left this morning for school so just me and my 6 4 and 2 year old. So I have been deployed 3 times and never been this nervous LoL. Cool thing is my oldest is my only girl so she kind of keeps her brothers straight. Has anyone else received an official school date yet?? My wife reports the 23rd.

congratulations man, I feel your pain with the fear of children being here and now wives to help lol. Still nothing yet from branch. After wife gets the AKO set up, I will pester her to contact branch and find something out. I do not remember HooahNurse, but is your wife taking a precision course after this, I am wondering if this may have been the delay with my wife.

She is doing a Critical Care Course I think. Or it might be some type of emergency course but yeah there was 2 other Nurses who were supposed to go Jan 23 as well, not sure who they are but hopefully they know.
