Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Specialties Government

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

Hooahnurse0221,

Did you get my private email? I send you one this morning. Tomorrow morning i am going to call my recruiter.

vtrobinson-

thanks for your replies. I also talked with LTC Weisgram today and he basicaly told me the exact same thing he told you. He said they are currently reviewing the list and working with the ANC for the "ability to activate the OML." They are basically waiting on funding. I am supposed to be 6th on the list of the OML out of 13. He said they would have information on OML activation NLT 10 JAN. So let's keep our fingers crossed everyone.

Brandonscott116, The actual breakdown was 25 applicants. 10 selected, 14 on the OML and 1 non-select.

I too am on the OML and awaiting word. I spoke with LTC Weisgram and it sounds like they are trying to get at LEAST ten more seats but they need to get the top ten squared away before they can request more seats. It is incredibly hard to relax, I feel ya.

I haven't got any response yet. I was waiting for the response actually. I got a paperwork from my recruiter stating that i was selected. So i was just waiting on the 4187. Can you please try to send it to this email [email protected] . This is my civilian email address. I guess you tried to send it in the army email address. Thank you so much.

I am so ready (so I think) to commission! I got a killer but classic dress for the ceremony and someone so super special (a former patient) to commission me! I had really hoped it would happen this month as Christmas is such holy time of year. i suppose there is nothing like starting out the new year with a step towards a new life either! However, I am starting to think this scrolling thing is really gonna take 30-90 days! Is this how long it usually takes b/t being notified of selection and being commissioned? Aside from cont. to PT what else can my family and I do to get ready? How are you all passing the time waiting to be scrolled? I am tired of people asking me where I am moving to and if I have heard any news.

Lizardmommy,

I am in the same boat. I am waiting on the scrolling result. I am also starting to think its going to take 30-90 days. However, i am currently active duty, that makes my time go easily. PT is an everyday activity. I can't think about day without visiting this site for more info. I have literally got more info from here than anywhere else. My recruiter finally came back today. I just spoke with him today. His answer was just wait. He said, scrolling time varies with people. I can't wait to get commissioned like all of you here.

I agree, I check this board several times a day. I can't get worked up over the scrolling process if most everyone else is also waiting. Looking forward to meeting many of you face to face this spring.

Specializes in SICU.

Where are you commissioning? Everyone I know took their oath at Ft Sam on their report date.....

Specializes in Burns/Trauma.

I think it is just the signing of the letter of intent? Although my recruiter keeps saying he will be commissioning me?

Does anyone know what type of apparel we are to bring with us to Ft Sam? Ie workout clothes, prescription sunglasses, etc?

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

You will get a ginormous packing list. Prepare to spend about $1K for everything. You will be reimbursed $600 at BOLC -- officers get a one-time reimbursement.
