Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Specialties Government

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

On that note, have any of the hopefuls tried to study sme of the FM's. A few to keep in mind, that may help you before your BOLC are.

FM 3-25.26 Land Nav

FM 3-21.5 Drill and Ceremony

Fm 3-22.9 M16/m4 familiarization

If you can get familiar with these 3, and ace the PT test, I guarantee it will make your training experience So much easier, and better prepared leaders also.

along with these make sure you look into fm 7-22 which we just published which is the new PRT. It is very important you know this as the PT program has completely evolved in a good way from back in the day. Plus if you can show up to school knowing all of the prepatory drills by heart you will look squared away and be a step ahead. Here is an acronym to remember

Be- Bend and Reach

Right- Rear Lunge

Here- High Jumper

Real- Rower

Soon- Squat Bender

We- Windmill

Found- Foward Lunge

Pennies- Prone Row

Behind-Bent Leg Body Twist

Poppy's- Pushups

And most importantly read up on what a pentathlete leader is and get into fm 6-22, especially apendix B which is counseling. And one last thing, understand the Be, Know, and do concept.

Adding to the info about PRT ... there is a free Android app -- the Army Pocket PT Guide. 140 page of good info, including the drills mentioned above. Also, 550cord.com has an Army Fitness Calculator that will calculate PT scores and show you min/max for all APFT events.

I have been following this post for a few months now, and like the rest of you, I am waiting not-so-patiently for a phone call telling me the news. I am a prior enlisted and have been nursing for about 5 years now. Unfortunately, I will not recieve constructive credit for my experience, as I have been working and living in Canada, and while I have the education and work equivalincy of an associate degree RN, the Army doesn't recognize it at all. But I will graduate with my BScN in May, and hope to go to Fort Sam Houston soon after that. I don't mind that I will enter as a 2nd LT, and I don't mind that with my wife quitting her job, and me quitting mine, we will be taking a $100 000 pay cut in the first year. I want to serve again, and I have seen enough of the civilian side of nursing to know that I need something different.

I know that the past few days have been really tense for me and everyone else who is waiting for news. As of yesterday the news that I got from my recruiter is this: "I just called brigade, the board for the nurses under 2 years of experience is still pending." It isn't much to go on, but at least we know that we haven't been passed over yet.

I really hope that this board can return to a place of mutual support and information sharing, and that we can avoid the abberations of yesterday. There will be more stress and frustration in our futures, both for those selected, and those who are not. We need to continue to be supportive of each other, and not turn on each other when the going gets tough.

Good luck everyone, and I hope to be fortunate enough to meet some of you at Fort Sam next year.

Our recruiter told us yesterday "results are done but not released, my commander is trying to get ahold of them"

If you could make that happen it would be awesome. This anticipation sucks.

Hello! I have not posted on here before but I was waiting in the wings with you all. I am a CRNA with 4 years working experience joining the Army Reserves. I just received word from my recruiter that I was selected from last week's board. I look forward to joining you all, and hope that you receive your good news soon!

Recruiters will not share information about other potentials besides their own; you're going to have to wait to hear from your own recruiter. I know, the waiting is awful. Good luck!

Congratulations!!! I think you will have a blast. Not to mention you will be joining the number 1 CRNA school in the world.

Congrats on your selection!!!

Thank you. I graduated from the number 3 school for nurse anesthesia, but I know the training pales in comparison to what I would've learned had I gone the Army route from the get go. But life choices get in the way, and the military was not an option at that time.

Congrats on your selection!!!

Just to be clear, I was selected in December 2010 ... LOL. I don't want anyone to think results are out yet! ;)

I think he was referring to the other person that actually was selected.
