Application/resume keywords

I remember reading somewhere to include certain keywords in your resume and application when applying for federal jobs. I forget the terminology used, but it was something other than "keywords." Am I imagining this? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Because, of course, now I can't find the info anywhere. If anyone has any idea where I could find this info or search terms for google/threads on here where this is discussed, I'd be super appreciative!!

From what I understand alot of resumes are computer screened to see if they have the key words for the job announcement. You would need to read over each one to find the words for each announcement.

Ok, so just repeat a lot of the words they used specific to that job announcement? Is there any way to know which words are the right or best ones to repeat? (I feel like I'm being so dense right now, sorry!)

OK...here's "one weird trick" for getting your MS Word (.doc or .docx) resume more attention when you submit it on line. Put your "keywords" at the bottom of your resume, using the smallest possible font (usually 8 pt.) and list as many as you can legitimately claim. List them in as many different forms as possible, including commonly used abbreviations. Then select that entire section of text and change the font color to white, rendering it "invisible" when the document is opened and viewed. It won't show up when they print out copies of your resume, but it will be "seen" by automated software used for screening, storing and searching resume databases. Bear in mind that it will be "visible" if your document gets converted to a plain text file, or if you "cut and paste", so don't put a bunch of b.s. in there that you can't back up with the facts.

Also known as keyword spamming. :) It doesn't work with resume building systems like USAjobs, and just be aware that some agencies don't allow applicants to apply with uploaded resumes.
