Hi, I was wondering if anyone was an L.P.N. in the Army? I want to know about Basic, the EMT Training now they are making people go through before they can go to the L.P.N. Program, and the L.P.N. Program.. Also, what's is it like being an L.P.N. in the Army?

Thanks.

Like a nurse tech. Do basic patient care, draabs, on a level of a non commissioned officer. Nurses are ususally Lieutenants and higher. Corpsmen are like EMT's in the trenches, or even parametics. They are usually called specialists.

I promise you LPN's do much more than just basic patient care and draw labs in the army! We preform small surgical procedures, assist in surgery, get extensive expirence in trauma, give meds, and not only are we trained as nurses but are also trained in combat medic care.(trache's, needle decompresions, any and everything a corpsman is!) I like your pride in your profession but DO NOT down play what we do! Now on the civilian side LVN's do not do as much as we do!

Even as a Medic 91W I got to do a ton of stuff... If a Doctor teaches you a procedure, and under their supervision you are allowed to do it... follys, meds, participate in minor surgery...too bad it's really hard to find a job with an EMT-B in the civillian world and the "scope" of practice is no where near what the Army lets you do... definatly get a M6 Identifier! It helps when you get out, so you will actually have a job when you become a civillian (LPN). The Army is a great experience!!

Hello,

I'm a 42 y/o male LPN in fairly good shape :smokin: thinking of rejoining the Reg Army. I currently work in a somewhat rural area with little to no opportunity for advancement. I want to go back to school but the schools in MS make it so hard to even get in it discourages you from even wanting to attend this whole state is backasswards:eek:, besides I'm craving some life changing experiences and the peace corps doesn't do LPNs:down:. I would like to utilize the army to help pay off my student loans, further my education in the nursing field and see the world or at least some of it.

Does anyone know what benefits, bonuses, rank and mos's and further schooling are offered to current civilian LPNs and or prior service?

Also if anyone knows what I should ask for or request when talking to a recruiter !!!

if anyone has any valuable or invaluable info please reply

Thanks,

Mudd

Do a Google search. There are several Army forums that will answer this question for you. Or better yet, call your local recruiter and get the scoop.

I am an Army LVN and Combat Medic when you join you do so with combat medic as your MOS and LVN and your indentifier. Army LVN's work mainly in ICU's and on Med surg wards. You will advance quickly in rank as you will max out your military education and you can transfer your education to a school and max out your civilian education for more promotion points. Its a very rewarding job also when you deploy most likely it will be with a combat support hospital.

I am considering the army reserves. The recruiter says that they have lpn training. What I need to know is will it give me everything i need to be able to pass the testing to get my lpn license in the civillian world or will I need to still take classes. I was looking at this route for the free training and then use the addition school funding they provide to see about getting an rn license and maybe a bachelors of science. I hate to enlist for 6 years and spend a year at ait if I wouldnt have the needed knowledge afterward to pass the testing in ohio and still have to go to lpn school afterward as a civillian.

From what I understand and speaking with the M6's at the hospital I work at, yes you will be able to get your civilian LPN.

The ATRRS course description lists sitting for the NCLEX-PN as requirement.

Awesome. Thanks for the info:)

I have been given the oppertunity to become an 68w-M6 and was wondering if there was anyone on this site that has been through the course in the past yr or two. I would like to know what I need to expect for phase one and what the difficulty level would be for a soldier with 3 yrs experience as a medic. I have always wanted to be a nurse since I was about 13, so in a lot of ways this is a dream come true. I am open to learning and instruction, so if you have any knowledge on the army LVN program I would really like to know more. Thank you !
