ANC Nov Board & M5 ID

Published

I wanted to start a thread for all of the people who are waiting for the November ANC selection board, specifically if you have/waiting on the M5 identifier for Emergency Nursing. I thought we could suffer together and update each other while we wait. You are welcome to post if you have another specialty or none at all.

My status:

I have submitted all documents, and waiting on M5 identifier approval, physical approval and for the packet to make it past QA.

Specializes in Emergency Room/1LT Army 66HM5.
I am stationed at Ft. Stewart GA.

Are you wanting to stay there or are you going to request another location? My brother hated Ft. Stewart. Visited him a couple times, but other than that don't know much about it. I absolutely loved Ft. Carson and Ft. Lewis! Do you know when we get to put our selections in? I'm assuming it's when we're selected by the board? I've almost given up on assumptions these days!! LOL!!!

Me and my wife love it here. We live in Richmond Hill, (where alot of officers & senior enlisted live), which is about a 1/2 hour away from Ft. Stewart. Richmond Hill is just east of I-95 and 20-25 minutes from downtown Savannah. I went to school at Ft. Lewis last year, the first month and a half it was great there, then fall set in. Dark by 4:30-5PM, drizzlily rain almost everyday. Not a place where I would like to be stationed at.

If your brother lived on base or in Hinesville can understand why he would have not liked it. Also if he was young at the time not alot to do in Hinesville for young soldiers.

Once you find out where you are going to be stationed and you have the time go for a visit & arrange to see houses with a relator if you plan on buying one. Also find out who your sponser will be and pick their brain about where to live.

If you are going to buy a house you will need to get in contact with the housing office on base to make sure that there is not a excess of housing for you paygrade on base. If there is an excess they might not give you any BAH (housing) and assign you a on post home.

I live in Hinesville and I know exactly what you mean by there is not much to do. I am really looking forward to be stationed at Eglin AFB.

I asked my recruiter and he confirmed, there is only 1 active duty 66H board scheduled for this FY. So if you dont make it this year you have to wait til FY 12, or try to get in reserve then go active...

Not to be redundant, but I had to seek additional clarification after my first email this morning, and I could not master the post edit feature.

For those seeking appointment as 66H(Med-Surg Nurse) there is one Active Duty board that meets in Nov 2010. For those seeking appointment with special identifiers (Critical Care, Emergency, L&D/OB-GYN, Psych, Comm Health,Psych) your packet may be sent to the board monthly until all slots are filled starting in October.

This is a direct quote from my recruiter, and yes he said boards start in October for the specialty identifier candidates. Can someone else verify this? My Recruiters have given me bad info before, but this is after 2 repeat emails to make sure I had it right. If this is true, the M5 peeps could hear good news before Christmas. Talk about a Christmas present!

If the first board is in Oct. yes you should here before Christmas. Depending on when they meet in Oct. you might ever hear before Thanksgiving

Woo hoo! Nice! Thanks for the info. :)

Lol - just wanted to insert here that the repository for all old military records is in St Louis in a crummy, repeat crummy part of town. I live in IL and had to go there to get a copy of my DD214 for something a few years ago.

Part of the building had burned in the late 1980's so my copy is kinda crumpled looking - I got discharged in 1980 - before any of you folks were born probably - lol

HRC is towards the end of moving to Ft. Knox. I guess they were trying to find a good place for it seeing that there is barely anything at Ft. Knox anymore. I wish some of my records were damaged during that fire. I found a sick call slip from basic online from when I had bronchitis. Caught hell for not being able to go through the gas chamber, so I went anyway. Felt like I was going to die, but my DIs didn't treat me like a slacker. Then when it came around to make ups my name was on the list and had to go through again. I think my DIs were trying to teach me a lesson...don't go to sick call!!!

I'm getting a little more than upset with the uncertainty of the board information. I spoke with my recruiter today that said the 66H with ASIs are going to the boards in Nov and the plain 66H will start in Oct because there aren't many slots for them. So, is he just not putting my packet through until November or is it really in November? If he's waiting then I'm worried that I'll be passed over and have to wait until FY12. Uggghhhh!!!:uhoh3:

I tried to look at the upcoming board schedules on HRC website, but it does not have the new accessions board listed. I think they may fall under USAREC, and I can not find them, I am looking ;)

New1LT I know it is a pain, but try to stay positive. All of your paperwork is in right, so look at it like this, maybe you get the good news a little faster. I am confident that you will be successful. As a plan B, you will be going to OBC have you considered looking for a backfill position (it willput you on AD status) if you have to wait for FY 12. You could pick somewhere your family could go with you and still get some exp.

today i heard from my new recruiter that m5 is boarding in november. i heard this also from my former recruiter four weeks ago. so, i am going with the conclusion that m5 active duty is not being boarded until november because everyone here has reiterated the same information since august. the positive is that if we have anything we need to edit, add, or fix/make up, then we still have time (well, six weeks or so).

now for the conflicting information: today i heard that no one knows how many slots m5 has for this year. my recruiter reported that recruiters are just going to send all of the applications that qualify to boards and see what happens. thinking positively, this information sounds a lot better then there only being 50 slots for m5, right?:twocents:;)
