Air Force and FNPs

  1. Hello,

im thinking about joining the Air Force as a RN. I am working on my MSN right now for FNP. By the time I get processed and accepted in the AF (hopefully), I'll be 3 classes away from graduating from my MSN.

My my question is: If I complete my MSN while I'm working for the AF, will they accept my degree to work as a FNP with them?

No they won't. If you join as an RN, then you will work as an RN until they release you. You'll get credit for the MSN and come in at a higher rank (O-2 instead of O-1). Finish your MSN and then apply. I believe the AF is no longer accepting new grad MSN-NPs, so you may need a few years of experience as an NP or your DNP.
