Can someone please tell the age limit for nurses in the navy and air force? I turn 41 in a couple of days here.

Thanks,

Kevin

OHSUBSN05 - I would love to hear what they were saying. I am currently looking at the Navy, but have also wondered about the AF. Feel free to send me a message if you would rather. Thanks!

Actually, I'd love to know, too, and so others probably would, as well, so would you mind posting what you learn about age limits from the recruiter on this board, please-oh-please? Thanks!

I am going in as a nurse practitioner to the Air Force and will be 43 in a couple of weeks. The age waiver was not a problem. Of course, I had to pass the medical exam and meet the requirements.

For AF, over 40 required more medical tests. You must be able to retire before age 68. Between 42 and 48, there is a possibility you will require an age waiver depending on your circumstances. Entry requirements change every year according to availability.

I have always been interested in the AF. Circumstances have prevented me from joining. I am a single parent and until now I have been unable to join due to the fact that I have 2 children. I now only have one that I take care of because my son graduated high school and has moved out. I live in Florida and am hoping to be able to stay near the base that is only about 30 miles from me. It is on the water.

I am in the process of applying for the Navy Nurse Corp. I am 39 and they told me the age limit was 42 but they would subtract my prior sevice years from my age. I hope it all goes through. I cant wait to be a military nurse.

Any suggestions on whether or not to stay on top of my recruiter or would it be better to let him take his time?

It took them 14 months, and a friend 20 months to get processed into the Air National Guard (earlier this year). Get going... And by the way I know the Air Force, for nurses, to be 47. I was 44 when I applied and 46 when I entered.

.... talked to the Air Force recruiter today and she told me 47. I have plenty of time. LOL. ......

I tried to contact recruiter in my area... No luck! I just leave messages.

About age limit. I looked online and I found this:

"What is the cut-off age for joining the Air Force?

Non-prior service applicants must be in Basic Military Training before their 28th birthday. Officer Training School applicants must be commissioned prior to their 35th birthday. Physician, Nurse and Allied Health applicants must be in Commissioned Officer Training before their 40th birthday. Prior service applicant age limitations may differ from what is stated above. Prior service applicants should contact their local recruiter for age cut-offs." from http://www.military.com/Recruiting/Content/0,13898,rec_step04_questions_usaf,,00.html

It made me upset, as I just turned 41. Am I really too old?!:crying2:

Hi, look here

It says up to 48 but my recruiter told me 47.

I came in at 42. The rules are different for RN's than other areas. You actually have up to 47 with waivers. Problem is the competition for few slots is fierce.

Thank you, OHSUBSN05, for reply! Yes, I see the age limit of 48. I just do not understand: when I was filling out their form "Join us" on the same website (with relation to medical professionals) I got automatic reply "Sorry...bla-bla-bla... but you are too old". I guess, I just need keep trying to contact recruiter.

Can you tell me more about your two statements, please?

An air force nursing recruiter called me today. He said, now the cut off age is 42! It means before I turn 42 I have to be enrolled into active duty. At this time AF does not offer any kind of wavers for the age over 42 as they have plenty of younger nurses. Also, even before age of 42 y.o. there will be a competition among applicants, and the chances are the younger nurses will be selected.

I am going to have a meeting with him in person in August. Will see what happen. Although it does not sound too good right now.
