Holly sticker shock! I went into the BX to look for great deals?........What? The stuff was more than what I would pay at Target or Fred Meyers including tax! I was kind of insulted at the prices. I didn't go look in the Commissary, maybe their better?
I must of misunderstood my recruiter. The product I sell could be sold to the AF or any other branch (Outback Flashlights). We have done some business with some of the NG units.

The bx is basically a profit store. Where the commissary is supposed to be only 5% above cost.

I want to know what it's like to study for an AF job for 2 years to get your NP. Do you go on base or have lecture and clinicals on base? Are you allowed to do anything else? Does the AF give you some kind of manual to follow to keep you on track?

In the papers from my recruiter, it says that all the base stores (grocery/hardware/clothing) are supposed to give discounts for military members and be tax free/reduced. Is this incorrect or does it only apply to some of the stores?

Yes it is tax free, however it is not cheaper! It might be if you have a coupon? They say "it's of higher quality" They wouldn't even let me buy anything because I didn't have military ID They wanted to see my orders, so I said, "FORGET IT" I'll take my business to Wal-Mart!

You will find that a lot of things on base are not cheaper than the civilian sector. In general gas and the commissary are cheaper, but even then that is not always true. There are things online like a special oakley store that offers pretty good discounts for verified military members. There are lots of civilian stores, hotels etc that also give military discounts if you ask. Word of caution/advice the military rates at hotels are not always the cheapest (some hotels just automatically quote the maximum per diem rate for hotels in that area for military members which is often somewhat higher than what you can find online).

The military isn't perfect and they sure can't compete with Wal-Mart as far as pricing goes, but you will learn over time how to use your military service to your advantage to save money.

It is like going to any other university except that you are AD and getting paid your full time salary while in school. You can either goto USU (Uniformed Services University) or for some other NP programs you can actually goto a civilian university. USU is a little more strict about somethings, but overall it isn't much different than going to civilian university.

Clinicals will be on and off base depending on where you goto school. No you are not allowed to do anything but be a full time student....no side jobs. http://www.usuhs.mil/gsn/fnp/index.html

WOW! I think it would be hard to study from home. I would get too distracted with the wife and kids activities. Do you have to report your school progress to someone in the AF if you go to a civilian school?

https://www.afit.edu/cip/ This website can explain the process a little more, but yes you are tracked. You have to report in periodically, do fitness tests, AFIT gets your grades etc.
You can study at the school or at home. When you goto USU it is a regular brick and mortar school.

The BX will price match anything it sells. All you have to do is ask the appropriate people.

They were going to price-match a digital camera for me - at SAM'S CLUB'S price.
