You can become a commissioned officer with an associates degree. In the Coast Guard all you need to go to OCS is 60 college credits and obtain the rank of E-5. I have a few friends who did it and are now senior officers.

Hello Gerry,
Possible you mean NCO, non-commissioned officer. Ranks that begin with E, (at least in the Army) are for enlisted. The topic is about nursing in the Army and the Army doesn't recognize Associate degree nurses in the Active Duty component as officers. It does recognize LVN but, not as officers, as enlisted.
Outside of what little I know about Army Nursing and degrees I cannot speak for other fields.

Gen you are correct. I was referring to becoming a non medical/nursing officer. I should have stuck to the original post!

So I just want to clear up some of my own confusion then. I understand that i can Join the Armer reserves with my ADn and become an officer. It was my understanding that should I become active duty I keep my rank. Am I to assume that i would be demoted before becoming active, or they would not let me go active for a certain amount of time? I ask because I am about to start my bachelors program and was thinking about waiting untill i was done and then possibly joining the Air Force Reserves instead. I have heard that they are very good about families when sent overseas. I have no info about bonuses in the AFR or really much info about the AFR really at all. Any help would be great.
