Volunteering: Craft Ideas?

Specialties Geriatric

Published

Hi Everyone,

I've just been asked to start up a craft program at the local nursing home. I know this is a nursing forum, and that this post is off-topic, but I was wondering if any of you had any websites or ideas that I could look into.

We're looking for fairly easy crafts to do with the residents, which wouldn't use an extensive amount of supplies.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Many thanks,

Jenn

I don't have any internet sources, but here are a few ideas:

Contact any day care or kindergarten teacher. Some of the crafts they do are easy for fingers that aren't as nimble as they used to be yet allow a surprising amount of artistic ability (plus at least at daycares, you will be utilizing every day things -- they improvise a lot and often do not use "bought" things).

My other suggestion is your local thrift store -- there always seem to be plenty of kids crafts books from the 50s and 60s, which offer simple crafts to make from stuff you find around your house.

PLUS if you have girl scout troops in your city that might be interested, the middle/high school girls might enjoy teaching the residents easy crafts.

Thank you for your help, Research Rabbit! (Very creative sn, by the way.) :)

Thanks! I have some kid's crafts books (somewhere...) if you can't find anything else, let me know, I'll make you some xeroxes and send them.
