I always thought an RN had to co-sign anything that a GN writes, be it orders or charting.

Moogie, I think it's time for you to move on. All the stress from this job is not worth it. Start looking for another position.

Give yourself some time...I decided after I left my last LTC position that I would never step foot in any LTC as an RN again. Money is tight but I have registered with a few homecare agencies and work when they have work for me. I beame a nurse because I wanted to use my skills and compassion to improve the quality of life for patients. I learned I need to be a "whole" person first a healthy minded individual , and one who did not walk into a unit full of anxiety and stress day after day.

From a different perspective---most of my career has been in LTC. I started in the days when you didn't have to be a certified nurses' aide as an aide and am now a DNS. You have to take from the good mentors and never repeat what the bad ones do. It would be easier to go around screaming and yelling that people haven't done what they are supposed to do, but since I don't like getting screamed at I spend the time to teach them the right way. I stick up for my staff when someone else is hollering at them. I do not keep dangerous residents in my building despite threats from corporate and the hospitals. The last person to get assaulted by a resident in my facility (while waiting for the ambulance to take him to the psych hospital) was ME. Was it traumatic? Not really. He is old and very demented. I am not old so I was fine. My staff was more upset that I might be hurt than I was. There are good facilities and good DNSs out there. Don't give up on the business because of one or two bad experiences. Take a breath, take a vacation, take a Xanax if you need to and get back to what you do.

Sorry, this thread was getting a little too intense for me. I've deleted my posts. Thank you all for sage and sound advice.
