State Surveyors....

Just wondering...Are there any state surveyors out there?

what's up with the state surveyors! I know alot of nurses fired because of them they are so unrealistic high and mighty and look at you like you're a piece of s...! Never meet one that was human like

We are looking for state surveyors any time . They have been coming to our facility for a while now . There is one of the team that looks me up everytime they come. Just to talk . Get an update on my kids and how they are doing . Another one used to talk to one of the other nurses about her cats all the time.

When they come in though everyone immediatly gets very nervous. There are times that everyone feels like hiding under a chair :chair:

Years ago when I was working full time I seriously thought about crossing over, then I had kids :uhoh3:

I know that when the kids get older, I will start working full time again. I love LTC, but not sure I can push a cart full time...love being an RNAC and ADON, but might consider working for the state.

Until then....I will stick with my weekends :)

Can anyone tell me how to prepare for the SMQT exam?

I don't know about that, morte - I've enjoyed reading this thread, and have gotten some useful info from it.:)

Maybe I'm just incredibly naive, but when survey time came, it was like the surveyors weren't even there. We just did our thing. And they picked on me. Every time they wanted to ask a CNA a question, it was like, let's ask the scrappy brunette! Maybe I'm too stupid to be nervous.

Marla,

I call going to administration going over to the "dark side."

State Surveyors, just as any other profession, depends on the individual. I have seen gross errors overlooked in SNF/LTC facilities due to a Surveyor's own agenda..i.e. wanting to be liked by the SNF people, or a Surveyor just not wanting to do extra work, i.e. writing a citation. It is also very political. I have also seen where the SNFs have such power that deficiencies are thrown out when, in fact, the resident suffered great negative outcome(s). I have further seen Supervisors in the state offices tell their Surveyors to 'hurry up and finish' when doing a survey due to time constraints, therefore, not really conducting an appropriate survey or complaint investigation. Just as there are good and bad nurses in the hospitals, snfs, etc. there are good and bad surveyors.. I can attest to much time being wasted also at taxpayer's expense. Many at a supervisor level have not one idea about compliance vs non compliance..The very, very sad part about it all is that the resident suffers as does the patient in a non SNF setting when a Surveyor goes out and does not want to 'work' and does the least that is expected.. and, don't fool yourself it does happen - I have seen it first hand.

Specializes in LTC.

i wish they would hurry up and get to my facility - corporate owners have turned my workplace into such a frenzy - i think they have dug us an early grave - no one knows what is going on from one day to the next - and as for being truthful when surveyors ask you a question about patient care - i dont even know the answers to that anymore because my policies at work have changed from week to week - and thats scary too - so come on surveyors - we are either ready for you or we arent
