found super neat website run by national citizen's coalition for nursing home reform-- go to http://www.ncchr.org/govpolicy/51_162_468.cfm, and you can look up the actual laws in regard to staffing ratios for your state!!! and more, too. :hatparty:

I could not get it either, it came up with Domain Contender. How did you search it?

I would love to know my state regs as I have been doing some Agency LTC and the ratios seem too high with call offs.

i am so sorry! dont know why it is not working--any computer geniuses out there? --go to the National Citizens Coalition for Nursing Home Reform, once there go to Government Policy. Be warned though-- some states follow the federal standard for staffing, which is ********. has no actual ratio, just vague stuff about "adquate staffing to meet needs, blah blah blah." from what i recall there are some states with actual numbers listed, though. :hatparty:

When I sent to that site and looked up Arkansas, it stated 1 LPN for every 35 residents on 11-7 shift. However, when I talked with someone from the AANHR this is what she said:

In answer to your question about staffing regulations for Arkansas, it is true that only one licensed nurse is required for every 80 residents on the night shift. Since there are 85 residents in your facility, two licensed nurses should be present from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. This is a Federal Law, but a State Law requiring more would take precedence over the Federal Law. Actually, the State Law was scheduled to be changed, requiring twice that many licensed staff on the night shift several years ago, but when the time came, the money supposedly was not there, so unfortunately, it did not take effect.

The Night Shift is required by State law to have one Direct Care Staff for every 14 residents. Direct Care Staff is any person who actually gives direct care. This would include licensed and unlicensed staff. Any licensed or unlicensed staff who exclusively perform paper work, or the Director of Nursing on a Day or Evening shift, should not be counted in the Direct Care Staff.

So...if we have 85 residents, that means we have to staff 2 lpns + 4 cna's, preferable 6 cna's. Wonder what our staffing coordinator will say about this?
