scheduling and short staffed?

HI,
i'm Jen, i work full time in the ER, and two days a month in an ECF.
I was approached this week by the exec. dir. of this ecf and asked my opinion on what can be done as far as staffing goes since i work in another healthcare facility..........

ok, this ecf pays far better than any other in the county.
this ecf has a wonderful reputation as far as aging in place, etc.
the place smells good.

my thoughts............ provide a better working environment, get rid of the aids that constantly ride the new aids....
provide incentive for call ins,,,,,,,,,,, provide incentives for picking up shifts,,,,,,,,,,

anyways this guy wants me to contact him if i have any other ideas....... i have none, so i'm coming to you....... how do you retain staff, what is your call off policy?

we are doing away with agency period which will make healthcare dangerous. i need suggestions fast.
xoxo Jen
