would be interested in talking to other restorative /nsg rehab coordinators about their programs. Will share information, what works/ what doesn't. Look forward to hearing from you!

Finally another restorative nurse...I was beginning to wonder if I was in a position that someone didn't want lol.

Will be happy to share my vast knowledge (now that's a joke) with you.email me at [email protected]

I am another Restorative/Rehabilitation Co-ordinator. Good to see that you have your sense of humor remaining intact!!!!!!! It's a joke!! I will be glad to exchange ideas with you. I have a great Activity department that is very helpful to me.

I have been working in a long term care facility/transitional care unit in NY. Due to the changes in managed care, our transitional unit now has to take residents from the ER holding area. This means I now have to perform a multitude of duties - from fresh fractures to UTI's to post MI to knee & hip replacements. So woe be it to the person who says "You're only a nursing home nurse"! The trend is now that these SNF are now seeing residents who are too sick to go home. Our residents may be with us from 3-6 weeks. Our PT and OT departments are very active and it's great to see how our plans of care are successful.

Would like an idea of the pay scale out there for restorative nurses...how does it compare to the floor nurses at your facilities?

Hi,I am an ADON in 120 bed LTC facility. Because of recent defiencies from state survey our restorative program is undergoing reorganization. Somehow I have acquired this task.(I do like new challenges)So I am muddling my way though and looking for any resources. The one thing I am having trouble with is coming up with an assignment idea for the exercise portion of restorative for each restorative aide so I have accountabilty that tasks our being carried out as assigned. For some reason I have hit a block here.So I would be thrilled to get any ideas. Thanks Debi

Hi, I am new to this site. I am beginning a new job as DON in a facility, where I understand that they have a poor Restorative Program. I am working on some ideas, but would be interested in any ideas you may have on what has worked/hasn't worked. Thanks.

I am new to this site also. I am an ADON in a 115 bed facility and have been just about everything you can be in a LTC facility nursing wise. I am Medicare Coord. and Restorative nurse Coord. Last year we were voted the best Restorative Program in our company. I have 88 people on this program. We utilize activites by having grooming and hygiene with rest. in the am and sittercise for our AROM program. I would be happy to assist anyone with ideas and help assist in a program. With this program you must work closely with rehab, activities, and social services. Please feel free and E-mail me @ [email protected]

Hi, I am new to this site and not quite sure how everything works, will I know if you get this reply? I was a floor nurse and our restorative dept got hit hard by state and our new DON (no longer works here) did not want the responsibility and gave it to me. I had to take a $2.oo an hour cut in pay! But I now have weekends off :). kady

Hi Kady. Welcome aboard. You have replied to a very old thread... see date in upper left corner. This originally posted in June 1999. I don't do restorative, but if you need new ideas, you may want to start a new thread of your own for the most up to date info. Good luck w/ your new job.

I have recently inherited the Restorative Program. I would like to go to some inservices/training to understand and know what to do. I want to have a super program. The average resident's age is 85. The nursing care center is in Ohio. We have a program in place but I would like to compare it to other facility, and see what is working for other restorative programs.

I recenlty took the restorative Nurse postion at our 190 bed position.. the nurse leaving that position, is not training me.. My supervisors have said the program has fallen to the wayside, and looking at documentation, and also questioning and watching the restorative CNA's yesterday and tody. I see I got a lot of work in front of me. I would appreciate any ideas and input of what works for everyone.
